ok I got it, I clicked on the apple thing in the corner and updated my software and Im golden!!! thanks for everything guys!!

i did but i got nothing hahaha. I know all my stuff is still on here, i just need to get it back to the way it was.

I have a pc keyboard. Is there a button on here that is the same as option?

i unplugged it already and it didn't do anything. i think it might have put my icons in the trash along with things from the external hard drive. I don't know whats going on

Ok so heres the deal, I plugged in an external hard drive into my imac. then all the sudden it froze. I restarted it and all my desktop icons are gone, I cant open finder or the trash. The bar at the top of the screen that has the time is gone/ I have no idea what happened, or how to fix it. So...

it started with one, i bought it used so i changed the name on the account. now there a users listed. there is one with a circle icon that is my name, there is one with a house icon with the name of the person i bought it from, then there are 2 that look like empty folders with names that look...

every time i restart my imac it creates a new user so it looks like default settings, all my stuff is still there but its under my normal account. WHat do i do to stop this? Im VERY new to macs by the way.
