My school has linux computers that I can connect to through ssh and remotely use the applications on them. For example, right now I do this: - Start X11 - Run the command "ssh -X username@server.blah" and log in - Start applications by typing something like "kwrite &" I was just wondering...

    Bush's Legitimacy as President

I disagree. The way it's done now gives power to the states, which does more than guarantee campaigning to lesser-populated areas. It's a key part of nourishing the unique centralized/decentralized nature of the United States. I think it's very healthy to ensure that states have a great deal...

    Removing Trusted Wireless Access Points?

That would work except for the fact that I have 2 different networks that I connect to frequently and one isn't necessarily preferred over the other. What I would really like is a way to remove the undesired network from the list that is hiding somehwere on my computer. I know it is there...

    Removing Trusted Wireless Access Points?

There are 2 wireless networks that I connect to regularly, and a third that lets me join but doesn't let me connect to the internet. Unfortunately, for some reason, the third is the one my PowerBook often joins by default. Does anyone know how I might be able to go back and tell OS X that I...

iTunes 4.6 Breaks hymn (aka Fairplay)

[EDITED BECAUSE OF INFO ON HOW TO CIRCUMVENT APPLE'S DRM.] I'd rather just have unfettered access to my music though...hmmm...maybe that's asking too much. Anyway, Apple can't continue to break it, actually. All Apple did was break the version of the program that tried to be more...

iTunes 4.6 Breaks hymn (aka Fairplay)

(oops, old name of hymn was PlayFair, not Fairplay. My mistake.)

iTunes 4.6 Breaks hymn (aka Fairplay)

Any iTMS songs de-restricted with hymn (http://www.hymn-project.org/) will not play in iTunes 4.6. Songs de-restricted through the previous version of hymn (PlayFair) will still play. I de-restricted all my songs so that I could easily use them in Final Cut (need to convert them to aiff)...

    NEW - Airport Express

Well, an access point which also automatically configures to work as a bridge or a repeater and is unusually compact and cable-free and has a printer USB sharing port too, which are sometimes found in other access points but sometimes not, yes?

    mx700

fbp -- have you tried using usb overdrive? if you haven't tried it, I'd highly recommend going to www.usboverdrive.com and giving it a spin. Works great on the MX500 & MX700 and lots of other mice too.

For those who can't wait (iPod Mini)

For those who absolutely have to have an iPod Mini right now (I really don't want to start another "It's too expensive! -- Just wait and see!" thread) just go here and grab a pair of scissors. ;) :D http://www.cdw.com/r.asp?n=35770

Rio announces 4GB MP3 Player, same price as iPod Mini

According to this article Apple said in the Q1 Results Conference Call that margins on the iPod mini are smaller than margins on standard iPods. Apple did a great job pricing standard iPods (it's the number 1 selling mp3 player in the world!) and will be making even less money off the iPod...

this explains why people look at me funny when i have my ipod...

I think it's funny how people feel like they have to let everyone know when something 'isn't funny'. Sharing a joke and saying 'yeah, that's funny!' = synergy. Saying (seriously) that you don't get the joke is quite understandable, but saying 'that's not funny/that's stupid' does...uh...what...

Anyone have iPod inMotion speaker pics?

Thinking of buying these from the Apple Store online, but I'd like to see some up-close in-use pics and can't find them anywhere on-line. Does anybody have a set who could possibly post a couple pics? I'd really like to know how it works with 1st-gen iPods especially (how it connects)...

What happened to $9.99 per album?

Weird to hear that the links work for some people and not for others. Here's the example albums I listed: "Outbound" by Béla Fleck & The Flextones ($14) (16 songs) "Verdi: Messa da Requiem" by Riccardo Muti ($30) (This is a 2 album set but that still comes out to $15/album and there...

    Better than Panther...

Thanks for the clarification. I don't know much about this sort of thing, I just know that all the cool/helpful things that I want to do that are possible with Cocoa apps (like those 2 apps I mentioned before) don't work with the Finder in Panther. So I guess it's missing whatever 'cocoaness'...

    Better than Panther...

And it's also a cocoa application so cool things like Cocoa Gestures and MaxiMice work with it as opposed to the Finder, which is a carbon app.
