Buy.com Music Store (the mighty merging of 3 threads)

Saw this from a link on MacNN: I think that's why iTMS works & BuyMusic doesn't. Because iTMS competes against file sharing and wins (wins for enough people at least) and BuyMusic competes against file sharing and loses (loses for most people, it seems). Another interesting aspect of this...

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

Final Cut Pro 4 works correctly now! Nice. Now I can finally I can throw all caution to the wind and make a beta OS my primary system for work as well as play. :D

Buy.com Music Store (the mighty merging of 3 threads)

You don't need Windows Media 9 to play the commercials from the website. Windows Media Player for OS X works fine. I couldn't get Safari to find the right plug-in, but Explorer did fine. Just FYI for all those unfortunate souls who thought they might never get a peek at those 'wonderful'...

    Konfabulator 1.5 tomorrow

Very cool. Can't wait for the embedded-in-desktop feature. I've wanted that every since version 1.0 came out. Thanks for the info Ricky.

Buy.com Music Store (the mighty merging of 3 threads)

Here's one reason why I don't think it will work: Those are the ownership privileges for the first 8 songs listed on their website (Top 100 Downloads). Managing my music library with an MP3 player and the occasional CD would be....confusing. If were a PC user sitting there and looking...

Buy.com Music Store (the mighty merging of 3 threads)

Apple's latest contender: http://www.BuyMusic.com OK, well, good luck & etc. to Buy.com I guess. First impression for me is that it's not nearly as nice as iTunes Music Store, even as much as they've tried to copy the iTMS format. One interesting thing -- their "commercials" are...

    Powerbook/iBook Panther function keys

On PowerBooks & iBooks it used to be that you could boot into OS 9 and toggle how the function keys + "fn" key worked (i.e. make it so that you had to hold down "fn" to get volume, brightness & etc. and otherwise they were normal function keys). What happens now: 1. Boot into OS 9 & make...

Lets Start a List of What Works/Doesn't work in WWDC Panther DP

Final Cut Pro 3 & 4 don't work right for me in Panther. uControl is also broken, and Cocoa Gestures now makes weird things happen sometimes.

    Command-Tab

Hopefully they'll improve it a lot before final release. I'm glad LiteSwitch still works in Panther though -- best app-switcher out there & faster than Panther's implementation (so far). http://www.proteron.com/liteswitchx/

Use your Bluetooth phone to remote control your Mac!!

Now why doesn't somebody make a bluetooth remote for the mac? I'd love to have all these features (like the proximity sensor) but already have a cellphone. Maybe Apple should make one. That would make for a very, very cool included accessory imo.

haxies, docklings, etc. - which are useful?

Thanks Ed! I had no idea you could do this but had always been annoyed by it.

haxies, docklings, etc. - which are useful?

I have an old (1.0) version of LiteSwitch which is 100% free and works just as well as the current version except for a few bells & whistles, I believe. I'm pretty sure the only reason they called it a ".5" upgrade to the current version is because they wanted to start charging for it. The...

    Safari with Tabs (v62 - v71)

ummmm.... I think the fact that it did those things with tabs was the entire point of his post.

HOWTO: View folders first then files

You can always use PathFinder as a Finder replacement. It's got a lot of cool features and they've done a good job of making do pretty much everything the Finder does and then some. It can take over your desktop, for example, so clicking on the desktop brings up PathFinder instead of Finder...

Use your Bluetooth phone to remote control your Mac!!

Wow, 100 reviews on VersionTracker and still a 5.0 rating. Not 4.7, not 4.9. 5.0! I don't personally remember seeing that before on VersionTracker... only one guy gave it less than 5 out of 5 stars. I wish I had a bluetooth phone just to try it out!

Do Cheaper Screens mean Cheaper Screens?

Also the CinemaHD beats any display in its class pricewise, so does that mean it's poor quality too? No, like symphonix said, they recently got a real slick deal goin' on with the manufacturer.

haxies, docklings, etc. - which are useful?

My favorites: Launchbar - great way to avoid navigating through folders to get to apps or commonly used documents. Didn't think I'd like it until I tried it. Now I'm addicted! MaxMenus - 100% customizable, drag-n-droppable, always-available pop-up windows in the corners of your screen...

    delete key?

Yup, just hold down the function ("fn") button and press delete. Forward delete! :) Sounds like a fun new toy you got there. Also, as a free tip :) I'd suggest you try out uControl. It's free and it's awesome on Mac laptops. You can get it from http://gnufoo.org/ucontrol/ It will let...

New Macs real cheap "is it for real"

Wow, here's an interesting link from that powerpage site about a company with similar-looking (though I don't know enough about either to say how similar looking they are) offer that really scammed a bunch of people out of money. http://home.nyc.rr.com/dp284/ Wasn't that long ago either --...
