Either way, i too definitely would go with 2700.

Tiger install screwed a Powermac G5

You are very welcome. If you can keep your Mac running long enough, then you could try all sorts of maintenance trouble shooting. 1. Try starting up in safe mode to see if you can resolve extension conflicts. 2. Repair disk and permissions of course. 3. Run the 3 periodic maintenance (cron)...

Best OS for an old eMac... Jaguar? Panther?

I'd go with Tiger if your machine fits the requirements (below). Most appear to reporting faster performance than with Panther. I get at least faster app startup/quit, OS startup/shut down, repair disk/repair permissions, clone internal, and faster surf Camino/Safari. Why not be on the frontier...

    Ram Question....

As said, there are no benefits unless you need it. Are you having many, or excessively long spinning, beachballs? Are you having obvious system slowdowns. Yes, well, OK, buy more RAM. There is no way to guess how much additional RAM would benefit you without knowing what you plan to do. If you...

    Memory buying/installing Question

Using twins may provide a barely perceptible speed increase, but also will hinder future RAM upgrade options since at least one 512 MB stick would have to be removed. I would buy a 1 GB stick. Yes, crucial means 2 512s.

Mac & PC friendly External HDD: What are my options?

Keep the drive formatted the way it is and use MacDrive (mediafour.com), or the equiavlent, on the PC. The main reason you don't want FAT 32 is that it won't allow you to copy files of 4 GB or more.

I think that having done all you have done with no success tells you that it is the logic board.

    My first feeze for months!!

You are very welcome. Sorry, it did not work. You could try starting up everyway conceivable--Command-S/single-user mode; command-V/verbose mode. Also, you could use command-C to start up from your intall DVD in order to use Disk Utility to repair disk and permissions. And, you could try...

Tiger install screwed a Powermac G5

I would not give up on Tiger. Give it another go after checking here. If your RAM worked on Panther, then it should work on Tiger. But, OK, you could try uninstalling it. To eject the DVD, given that a basic restart does not help, shut down, wait 30 seconds to a minute, then restart holding...

    Ram Question....

Additonal RAM won't provide any benefit unless you need it. Most people can stand to have at least 512 MB in an iBook. Heavy game playing would require more.

    RAM advice...

Right, 1 Ghz+ iBooks down clock 2700. As I recall, some older pBooks can use 2100 to their disadvantage.

Cloning Mac OS 10.2 from a laptop to an iMac

What i was thinking is not a big deal. i was thinking why not download the updates pertinent to each machine, put them in folders specific to the machines, and transfer them to the different machines for installation using the T approach--firewire target-disk mode.

    iLife on a clean install

    1. Pacifist 2. It would be on the Panther disks that came with your Mac, but it is not on the Tiger disk. However, iTunes is on the Tiger disk. Yes, iTunes is on your iPod CD. it also is available for download at Apple.com. If your intsall DVDs/CDs didn't allow you to install exactly what...

    My first feeze for months!!

You could try starting up in safe mode (hold shift down when you hear the chime, and let up when you see the cog) and disabling your startup items. Then, you could add them back one at a time to try to identify any extension conflicts. After starting up, also use Disk Utility to repair...

802.11g repeater - what do you recommend?

They like to take siestas, and it can be very tedious to get them back to work. I use my AX to join our Linksys network to stream iTunes to a sound system. I have to fiddle a great deal with both the AirPort Setup Assistant and the AirPort Admin utility to get my AX back on the job, and it takes...

    RAM advice...

Your pBook will perform better with the 2700. It will not upclock the 2100. Outpost.com has excellent prices on both and will ship to the UK.

Many are just like you. I participate in several fora. As best I can determine, the fix is not yet known.

    iLife on a clean install

1.You can reinstall iLife from your Panther (I presume) DVDs/CDs. You might have to use Pacifist. 2. Specifically, it is an excellent idea to have a bootable firewire external--not a USB external. Cloning to an external firewire, among other things, provides (a) the easiest/fastest way of...

No DVD drive / Install Tiger over network?

I didn't read the link, but you would just trash the disk image from your iPod like from any other hard disk--since it will be in hard-disk mode if you install from it.
