Install OS X on external firewire drive

Here is the long and short of it. - Plug the drive in. Make sure it is working and that there is nothing on it you don't mind getting rid of. - Put your Mac OS X install disc into the drive and shut down. - Turn on your Mac while holding down the "C" key to start from the CD drive. - Once the...

    The new iMac, HOLY COW

"Nah, man. I think the reason the show went down badly was because we had a giant stone monolith out there that was in serious danger of being trampled on by a dwarf." I love that movie. :-)

    The new iMac, HOLY COW

I think they look very beautiful, and Apple have managed to stay on target with this one by emphasising all the things that are great about the previous iMac design and improving on it without going overboard. Bravo Apple.

    August 7 predictions

I think not. It makes sense for iPhone, or even for a portable device such as iPod, but for Macs its not really likely to be an effective interface option. That is a pretty real possibility, though I doubt Apple would host a whole press event day just for iLife. It might well sneak in there...

    August 7 predictions

I'd see that as the most probable event. The iMacs are well and truly due for a new generational design. Apple tends to introduce mainstream, high-volume, flagship products at events like this and save the Pro product lines for trade events. I would expect the new generation of iMac to be a...

Either of these programs might do the trick: EasyBatchPhoto - http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/imaging_3d/easybatchphoto.html GraphicConverter - http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11559 (GC is very good and does have AppleScript support).

    First Mac Purchase

To make these icons, go to the website you want it to point to in Safari (eg: www.apple.com) and then drag the web address from Safari into the Dock. It'll turn into one of those little @'s with a spring.

    mp3 player

Creative, Sandisk and iRiver are all quite good options. I'd steer clear of any brand without a solid reputation, and definitely stay clear of Sony as their DRM is very difficult to work with and causes headaches for managing the tracks on it. Ultimately I would say that you get what you pay...

    Bobw Passed Away

I'd also like to add my condolences and pass on how much I've come to respect Bob over the past few years. He was always helpful, kind and thoughtful and his absence will be felt by all of us here at the Macosx.com community.

How do i fix my blown mac

This company does power supply replacement for iMac G4 for $115-125 (+$50 for transport) depending on model. I'd quote that as a guide. http://www.dttservice.com/imac/imacg4.html This company sells the part for $150. http://www.welovemacs.com/6613185.html I'd still get a local Apple technician...

How do i fix my blown mac

That does sound like a blown power supply, and since that power supply is designed specifically for that model of iMac, you will need to have an Apple tech swap it out for you. Your best bet is to call Apple directly and ask them for advice. I'd also put a surge protector on it once its...

No new YouTube content in four days

The content provided to AppleTV and iPhone isn't *directly* from YouTube's core system. Rather, the YouTube videos need to be translated into H264 format. A system has been built by YouTube and Apple that will do this automatically, and it is translating the entire library of YouTube videos into...

    iPhone's Grand-daddy from 1983...

This Apple design prototype shows that Apple have been toying with the idea of creating a phone from as far back as 1983, before the Macintosh even hit the market! Source: http://fudder.de/artikel/2007/07/17/origin-of-the-iphone/

Olympus EVOLT E-510 vs E-410 vs Nikon D40x

I'd recommend the Nikon over the Olympus as you will find a larger range and easier availability of lenses, flashes and other accessories. I've used one of the Olympus D-SLR's (can't remember which one it was) and while the image quality was good (and it had a very good ISO range) the overall...
