    Mysterious "23.jpg" keeps reappearing

It sounds like you've accidentally dragged this JPG into your sidebar. You can get rid of it by dragging it out again (grab it, drag to a blank area such as your desktop, let go and it'll *pop*). :)

    White iMac audio out

The jack on the iMac is called "Mini Toslink" and is a Toslink format, but with the mini-plug on the end. You can get suitable cables *or* adapt a standard Toslink cable with an adapter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toslink

    Amazon threatens iTunes

One can only hope. It is taking the record labels a long time to realise that insisting on DRM is counter-productive in terms of reducing piracy. If you insitute a system that places limitations on legitimately purchased songs then you force people to break the system just to be able to play...

My macbook is dead, please help

Since any troubleshooting beyond the steps you've already tried would involve opening up the Macbook, I'd suggest you get it back to your Apple dealer (or call Apple) and have it repaired. There is a very good chance that it will be under warranty.

Is this some sort of USB problem?

I'd start with a process of elimination. Remove your attached USB devices one by one, to see if you can identify which device is causing the problem. When you find it, you might be able to update the driver for that device to fix the problem.

    Safari Tabs Question

Did you know that the little text area just to the right of the address bar is the Google search bar, and you can just type your search into that? New tabs (Cmd-T) open up blank by default. If you have several "starting points" that you like to begin at, I suggest putting them on your bookmarks...

My Mac Keeps Reseting Its Self!!!

I was just about to ask "What type of Mac do you have?" when I noticed your username. :-) I had a similar problem on my iMac G5. The power cable really has to *click* right into its spot otherwise the slightest nudge can knock it out. At one stage when I had my desk really poorly arranged and...

    Mac Mini for a TV

The Mac mini does have S-Video and composite video output with an optional cable you'll have to pick up separately. It makes an adequate DVD player and a Mac mini could allow you to quite happily get rid of your DVD player. It's not a home-theater quality player, but I doubt that is what you're...

Last minute Xmas gifts for wife?

Jewelery is usually a good option, provided you can match your wife's tastes fairly well. As for massage products/devices, in my experience they don't get used very often and end up in some forgotten corner. A day at a relaxation spa might be a better option.

Mail hung up on large message

If you're getting a Delivery Status Notification failure, then it is getting as far as your mail server but is not being accepted by the receiving server. Most email servers place limits on the size of emails that can be sent. A typical limit might be 5 to 20mb depending on how generous (And...

    can't change screen

First of all, the Apple logo comes up while the system is initialising. If the Macbook has shut down improperly or lost power, it will check the disk while this Apple screen is displayed, which means you might have the Apple logo on screen for about 5 minutes (lesson: try and avoid improper...

Little snitch -should I get it?

I would agree that Little Snitch is a very useful addition to the Mac's own firewall. It will let you know if an app is phoning home, which they do a lot more often than you would think. The only thing I'd add is that if you are using Little Snitch and you enjoy playing online games (eg: Quake...

    Moving to a new Mac

Agreed. Firewire target disk mode (along with Migration Assistant) is the Mac's convenience and usability guitar solo and no Mac user should be without a firewire cable for just this purpose. Smartest $5 you'll ever spend.

    Word Processors for Mac!

NeoOffice and/or OpenOffice are very well featured, covering pretty much everything MS Office can do and offering full compatibility with MS Office files. I highly recommend them.

    the cat is back!

Ahh, that kitten. Madelin's right. You'll only have to wait a few weeks to get a legitimate cat that's ready to pounce. If it hasn't been released yet, there's a reason. In other words, I was right! :p

    the cat is back!

It's simple. Kittens always land on their feet, right? And you tried using Toast. Everybody knows if you drop Toast it always lands butter side down. Hence, Kittens are incompatible with Toast: if you try and burn your kitten with Toast and then you drop it, it will hover in the air and never...

Overfan when using Application in Classi

Are you actually rebooting into OS9, or running the application in Classic under OSX? OS9 doesn't have the drivers to control the fan speed on most G5s, and so if you boot into OS9 the fans will ramp up to maximum speed by default. I get the same thing on my iMac G5 if I reboot into OS9. Also...
