New Mac Minis and iBooks support core image?

You say that now. But how will you feel when Apple comes out with it's competitor to Photoshop that relies on Core Image to function? While Apple probably won't come out with this app anytime soon, the technology in Core Image is so good, it's just a matter of time before some enterprising...

New Mac Minis and iBooks support core image?

Well, that's good news for the iBook. Still very disappointed that the mini doesn't have a better GPU. I'm perplexed why Apple didn't upgrade it. Did they have too many ATI Radeon 9200 chips on hand and needed to unload them? I would really like to get a mini, but there's no way I'm shelling...

    Swift Publisher: a Pages.app killer?

You've got a great 1.0 app there BeLight. Congrats on the release! I already own both Pages and MS Office, so I don't really have an opening for your app - yet. Find some killer feature that neither have and I'll be willing to fork over $40 without hesitating. A suggestion - leverage the other...

New Mac Minis and iBooks support core image?

From Apple's Website: Core Image-capable graphics cards include: ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 ATI Radeon 9600, 9600 XT, 9650, 9800 XT, X800 XT nVidia GeForce FX Go 5200 nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL So I guess both the mini and the new iBook still...

New Mac Minis and iBooks support core image?

The iBook has a newer graphics system - ATI Radeon 9550. The mini has the same system in the previous release - ATI Radeon 9200. I know the mini doesn't support Core Image in Tiger. Not sure about the iBook.

Mac mini the first to go Intel?

While anything is possible, I doubt that Apple will sell PPC Macs one day longer than they need to. Although demand could extend the availability of PPC Macs past the 2007 mark, I don't see it happening. By the end 2007, 3/4's of the Mac line will be Intel, and the transition will be mostly...

    White Spots with LCD screen

Had the same problem on a Powerbook G4 1.25ghz 15" that I bought in Feb. of 2004 as a refurb. It happened twice, actually (I had Applecare). Although Apple turned the repairs around very quickly, I had enough and sold it on eBay and bought a Powerbook G4 1.5 17". Love the extra screen, hate the...

Which is the better Word processor - Pages or AppleWorks

Although Pages is technically a Word processor, Apple tried very hard to differentiate it from the pack (and Word, specifically) by giving it more of a page layout approach. It's really more competition for Microsoft Publisher than any other word processor. It's a great 1.0 app. I use it all...

    Websites running away from Qucktime?

Yeah, I'm calling BS on your assessment. Just as someone needs to know Windows well enough to not get infected with adware/spyware within 10 minutes of being connected to the internet, your graphics people need to know Macs. If they are having kernel panics - there is a problem. Mac OS X is...

There is only ONE Reason to buy a Macintosh

Adonsa, you are entitled to your assessment. However, if you don't like Apple's future, there are at least two other platforms out there that you can move to. Linux is free (and will work on your current Mac hardware), and Windows. Go give both a try and get back to us. An Intel chip will...

It's The End Of The World As We Know It

First of all, there currently isn't any mention on Apple's consumer website about this. For obvious reasons, Apple will want to keep this as "under the radar" as possible. Reality is, even if Apple doesn't tout it themselves, the whole world will know that it's coming. And why wouldn't Apple...

    *WWDC 2005 Thread*

No Quicktime feed. I can remember only one year when Apple made a QT feed of WWDC available, and that was the year they introduced the G5, iSight and Panther. 2003, I believe.

    XSI on OSX petition

gollum - Lightwave is a great option as well for the Mac. Though not as widespread in the movie industry as Maya, it has a large user base in the broadcast arena (TV, Commercials, etc.), and is very comparable to Maya's feature set.

    Outlook for OSX

Yes, but using Mail you can only READ email from your Exchange server - you can't send from it. The only way you can send from it is if IMAP is turned on. I don't know about you, but if I can't send AND receive from an account, it's more of a hassle to use than just using Entourage or OWA.

    Outlook for OSX

Both Apple's Mail and Thunderbird are only viable Exchange options if your Exchange server has IMAP turned on. Most Exchange servers don't have this on by default, so unless you have sway with your Exchange Admin, you probably won't be able to use Mail or Thunderbird. If your company/job...

    Outlook for OSX

I can tell you, it isn't. At least as an Exchange client. Entourage is a much better email client on the whole, but it doesn't interface with an Exchange network to the full level of Outlook. It's about 50% there. It's main deficiencies are: 1. Inability to have more than one Exchange mailbox...

    Adobe to aquire Macromedia

Both Adobe and Macromedia outsource at least some of their development to India. Frankly, I don't know of any large software developer that doesn't outsource these days, at least in some capacity. Over the last year I have worked closely with many members of the Dreamweaver team. They did a...

    Adobe to aquire Macromedia

Actually, Freehand was in Adobe's possession for a brief period when they acquired Aldus. I still have a copy of "Adobe Freehand". The box packaging had a brown outside wrapper on with the Adobe branding on it. Inside everything was "Aldus". Adobe only had the product for a very short time, as...

    Mail vs Thunderbird vs Others

I use Thunderbird under Windows and Linux, but Mail on OS X. Even though I have some issues with Mail, I have been using it since 2000 when the Public Beta was released and I have nearly 5 years of email in it that has been migrated from 6 different computers I have owned since then. I'm...
