"ipconfig/release" equivalent in Mac OS X?

Is there any possibility to get Mac OS X to perform the same thing Windows 2000 does when I write "ipconfig/release"? I'm not sure what it does, but in order to get connected with a different computer (ethernet card) to my ISP I have to do this, or wait 2 hours.

Is OSX a 'secure' OS? I think NO!!! infact......

Windows 2000 even gives away the username of the last user... That's worse. I have never seen a *nix-system that uses more than 8 chars, but then again, I haven't seen many unix-systems. :)

    how do i use 'zip'

Just type 'zip' and you'll get a small manual. Like this: Copyright (C) 1990-1996 Mark Adler, Richard B. Wales, Jean-loup Gailly Onno van der Linden and Kai Uwe Rommel. Type 'zip -L' for the software License. Zip 2.1 (April 27th 1996). Usage: zip [-options] [-b path] [-t mmddyy] [-n...

I want to take a dive and convert completely to Os X!!!

I don't think a carbonized Photoshop will appear anytime soon. Adobe aren't even coming to MWNY. That means they haven't even got a demo to show us. :(

    The music app in PB...

iTunes uses 20+% both when it's in front and when it's in the background. I can't see why that would make any difference. Once again people, try out Mint Audio. I adore it. I payed the shareware fee after 10 minutes. It's only $13.

    Ouch! What's with the colors?

    The music app in PB...

Check out Mint Audio! http://mint.unsanity.com/ Looks great, kinda like Macast Lite, but very much improved. Also, it uses only 10% of my CPU, nice!

    error compiling BitchX 1.0c18

MacOSX.org has a detailed guide on installing BX under Mac OS X. Easy as... All I need to know now is how to change the keymap in the terminal and in BitchX... If someone has any clue about this, reply or something... :) http://www.macosx.org/bxforosx.html

    The music app in PB...

Good to know I'm not the only one how doesn't like iTunes. I've tried to play my mp3's thru Quicktime and Audion now, and both of them uses around 30% of my CPU... Perhaps the problem is Mac OS X and not the players? Perhaps they all use Quicktime to play the mp3's, and Quicktime in Mac OS X...

    The music app in PB...

Is there any way to get the music player from the PB to work in Mac OS X 10.0? Is there even anyway to get hold of the program files without installing PB again (isn't even possible, I think...)? iTunes uses 20 or so % CPU on my iMac, compared to Winamp that uses around 1-3% doing exactly the...

    Resolution?

Why is this thread in the screenshots section? :) Anyway... I have a 21" monitor that would be cool to use with my iMac, but when I plug it in to the VGA port it will only display 1024*768, the same as the iMac monitor, quite useless then. Is there anyway around this in Mac OS X? And would...

    Prisoners not allowed to vote?

Talked to a friend a couple of days ago about democracy and such in USA (Bush has recently been to Sweden, you might have heard of the riots?). He told me that if you once have been in prison in America you lose your right to vote in elections, forever. Is this true? If not (I highly doubted...

*codename: Chameleon Revealed* Os X On Intel

I have to agree with a post on one of the other forums, mikeyd@apple.com doesn't sound lika a realistic apple.com email adress. I really hope there's some truth behind this though... What if Motorola suddenly decides to stop developing the PPC platform...? Or maybe they and Apple have some...

    Wish List

Something like mIRC for Windows. I like Snak aswell, but it lacks some important features like "auto complete" for nicks in the channel and a useful highlight function. If anyone actually decides to start a IRC-project, please contact me, I have a million ideas for the interface and functions. :)

    IRC channels

:) What net to use? DALnet has all those nifty "services" and all, but also the constant net-splits. QuakeNet also has something like "services", but I don't know how they work. QuakeNet seems to be more stable also.

    Mounting...

When I partitioned my drive a couple of months ago I prepared it so that I easily could install Linux on it. I made a 1.5 Gb partition for 'root' (Apple_UNIX_SVR2) and a 50 Mb partition for the swap. Now, I'm running out of space on my other partitions and it would be nice to use the 'root...

Ok! Can someone tell me how to make a symlink then? I tried searching for files called 'cc" and 'gcc' with Sherlock, but I didn't find any... And oh... Did I mention I'm a *nix newbie? :P
