    Wan To Lan

You haven't given us enough info about what you're trying to do. I'll take a guess that you're talking about a router... WAN is the connection that goes to the outside world. Usually you connect the WAN port via ethernet cable to a cable or DSL modem. LAN ports are to connect local...

    IP printing in leopard

I've never used a Canon Imagepress Copier, so I may not have the answer... If you read what I wrote above, you'll know that "Using IP address to connect" doesn't quite tell us all we need to know. These details are hidden by Windows installers, but on Macs (and linux) we need to also know comm...

Suddenly internal DVD drive won't work

It's very easy to replace the DVD drive - they cost $30 - $45 these days. It's an ATA (often called PATA) DVD/CD burner. Because of its mechanical characteristics, the DVD drive is the least reliable part of your computer. Places to compare: www.macsales.com www.newegg.com...

Mac 10.4 to Windows XP HP P1006 Laser Printer

Sorry, Jud, but drivers on OS X don't work like on Windows. The driver provided by HP is a USB-only driver, because it's a "Carbon" driver and USB is the only comm protocol built into the driver. You need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocols in OS X, that are supported by CUPS. I...

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

I'm using Firefox... When I open that PPD file, it comes up as text - then I go to File > Save As and it knows the file name and, like MisterMe said, it doesn't matter where you save it - desktop is OK.

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

And - To use the pxlmono/special PPD driver, you must also install "foomatic" and "ghostscript." http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic

    PCI Ethernet Card: ifconfig

Go to Network Prefs, Show: Network Port Configurations and click New. If the driver software is installed, you should see a new PCI/dlink option. It may help to restart the Mac. Also go to Blue Apple menu about this Mac > More Info and see if the PCI card is there.

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

Looks like PCL 5/6 is standard: http://savin.com/products/productshowroom.aspx?hbn=products&cid=32&cname=B%26W+Multifunction&scid=2&scname=23-45%20ppm&pid=599&smname=&ptm=specs Do you mean maybe the IT dept has turned PCL off?

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

Dan - If Savin follows the standard for the LPD and IPP protocols, there must be a queue name entered. print, printer, lpt1, L1 are common ones. The HP Jetdirect protocol is called raw port 9100 on WIndows - it doesn't use a queue name because it uses a port number to differentiate multiple...

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

Tell us all the details of how you're connecting/adding the printer. IP printer > which protocol? Local IP address of printer and Mac? Queue name - if using IPP or LPD? Just a reminder - HP-provided drivers probably won't work, but CUPS drivers (Gutenprint, pxlmono, hpijs) will. MisterMe...

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

Macs can definitely print using the PCL page description language. I don't use Leopard, so I don't remember the location of the generic PCL 6 (HP Laserjet 6 Series Gutenprint) driver - you will not be using a made-for-Savin driver, but it should work just fine. Is there a "generic" grouping of...

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

To print without the postscript option, use HP laserjet 6 Series, or generic HP PCL 6 driver(s).

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

Dan, Do you know if the printer has the postscript Add-in option? Get that from a self-test page maybe? Or look on the back near the network connector. High-end printers that have postscript "optional" almost always make only postscript drivers for Macs - requiring the postscript option...

Problems with printing to an IP Printer

What model Savin, so we can read the manual? Do you have a driver? Have you tried HP Jetdirect protocol?

    No Bonjour Printers are available

First, it isn't appropriate to turn on printer sharing on the Mac, bacause the printer isn't on it. It is possible to print via standard Windows TCP/IP protocol, too. (called TCP/IP raw port 9100 in Windows-centric manuals)

Manage HP Printers in OS X

Short answer - no. You can use telnet (command line) to connect to almost all HP network devices.

hp laserjet 1320 and mac OS 4.11

The driver for that printer is included in OS X 10.4. Did you try that before installing from CD? You may have installed an older driver. Because that printer uses both postscript and PCL 5/6 (HP's page description language), you should be able to print using generic postscript and HP Laserjet...

Getting my PC to join my airport extreme wireless network

"Passwords" are interpreted differently by different computers. The real thing is the hexadecimal passkey, 26 digits. Can you see that in the Airport Admin?

Find a parallel print server. Probably ethernet only, but it WILL work.

    PS121 v2 and Leopard 10.5.4

You also installed Ghostscript, right? IPP and LPD protocols specify use of a port name (queue name) to distinguish between ports the printer could be on (even if your print server only has one port, the Protocol requires the queue name). You should be able to find the queue name in the manual...
