    Archive & install ?'s

I probably did not read correctly before. I have never tried to erase a partition on an internal using another, but you may be able to do so. But, regardless, you should be able to uninstall everything on the OS 9 partition. As implied, I now am assuming you have 2 partitions. And, you would be...

Tiger Dual Boot Problem. Can't install Jaguar after installing Tiger.

You could try installing Tiger on the second drive to get a better view of whether the drive is bad. And, maybe your Jaquar disk is bad.

    Installation?

I don't know if you can do what you mention, but I have a suggestion. I think you may be able to install Tiger from another Mac using firewire target-disk mode. I have not tried this approach so use my suggestion at your own risk. Maybe your friend has a firewire Mac with a combo or superdrive.

    10.4 just HANGS at Start-up!

I assume your system qualifies. Here are the basic requirements: Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor Built-in FireWire 256MB of RAM 3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if you install the developer tools) And, what installation method did you use? Maybe another...

    Warning: Maxtor/Tiger Compatibility issue

Installing the driver solved some Tiger/Mator One Touch problems on another discussion (while deleting the files didn't).

    Warning: Maxtor/Tiger Compatibility issue

Some have solved their Maxtor One Touch problem by intalling this driver if not already installed. I am not sure if you have a One Touch.

    Tiger blinded by Windows

I will describe what what works on my iBook/4 PC network (3 XPs and 1 Me) after updating to 10.4. You can apply what I say to your case as best you can. Ignoring a couple of comuters, my setup is Desktop PC > Ethernet cable > Linksys WRT54GS wired/wireless router. Cable modem > router. iBook >...

    Knackered External HD

I would back up the files on the drive and erase/format it. You could also try repairing disk and permissions.

    Safari 2.0: new window weirdness

Yes, it does work generally--confirmed by me too. Interestingly, it doesn't work with Safari, itself--which is the main application I would want it to work from. When I initially confired the poster's problem 1, I was using Safari. I assumed that Safari would be an included application. Oh well.

    whirring noise won't stop

I will keep thinking. On your sleep issue, you might try resetting your PMU. If you are really lucky, doing so might help with your fan problem, but I seriously doubt it.

    Sharing Mac PC

Turn all computer firewalls off, and use only your router firewall. Try finding your Mac by adding a network place on the PC--using your Mac's IP address. Enable Windows Sharing on your Mac. Using the Directory Access utility, be sure the SMB line is check. Also, double click on this line and...

how to import rss feeds from netnewswire into safari

My simplistic procedure was pretty much like yours. I moved the Safari "All RSS Feeds" folder to my bookmarks bar and set up my own folder in the bookmarks bar--"RSS Feeds." Then, I went to the sites I am interested in using the "All ..." folder's contents and added the sites to the "RSS Feeds"...

why spinning pinwheel of death with browsers?

Check out Activity Monitor. See if any app or process is hogging your CPU. Any process/app taking over, say, 20% is suspect. If you find one that is taking significantly more than 20%, then quit it. Also, see if you have a RAM shortage as evidenced by excessive pageouts--say pageouts more than...

    VShieldCore hogging CPU

Try clamXav. However, note that this app is not Tiger ready. I also do not run AV. I feel for other Windows users, but believe that it is their responsibility to take care of themselves. In other works, I don't want to bog my system down because of the lack of personal responsibilty of others...
