Replaceing the Login Screen Under MacOS X (10.2)

.nib files contain information about the appearance of applications. Things like window size and position, image size and position, text entry field size and position, etc. Also menu information such as what menus an application will have and what the titles of the menu items will be. I believe...

Replaceing the Login Screen Under MacOS X (10.2)

Understood. Did the file you downloaded come with a login.nib file? If not, then either a) You will need to edit your existing login.nib file (located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgentPlugins/loginwindow.bundle/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/login.nib/) so the apple logo graphic...

Replaceing the Login Screen Under MacOS X (10.2)

Really? hmmm... Now what did I miss? Did you get any errors? granted, you probably would have mentioned them if so, but... :p well, yes and no. Yes in that the commands I listed are supposed to do exactly that. However, if you tried to do it by simply dragging files around in the finder, you...

installing the bsd subsystem on existing osx install

On further study, it would appear the course of action I listed above may not be a good idea. It would appear to leave the system in an unbootable state. Perhaps this is because I installed the BSD.pkg from 10.2, while the OS was version 10.2.2? I honestly don't know. But unless someone else has...

Replaceing the Login Screen Under MacOS X (10.2)

That would be the /System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgent.app/Contents/Resources/loginpanel.tiff file. So to replace your login screen, you would do the following. I don't know your level of expertise, so i'll try to keep the directions simple: 1)Download and decompress the desired file...

    iPulse, cool!

Only problem with not paying for it (besides the morality//rightness issue): The reminders to pay appear to get progressively more annoying. On my machine it currently brings itself to the front, hides all other applications, and says "Please register iPulse" every so often (30 minutes or so?)...

Replaceing the Login Screen Under MacOS X (10.2)

If you wish to replace the apple logo in the login window, the file you need to replace is /System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgent.app/Contents/Resources/loginpanel.tiff To replace the background behind the login window, you need to replace the file /Library/"Desktop Pictures"/"Aqua Blue.jpg"...

installing the bsd subsystem on existing osx install

Umm, actually, OS X and aqua work just fine without the BSD subsystem. I know, because I just installed a copy (10.2) without it yesterday. Just click the customize button in the install window, and uncheck the BSD subsystem. Install goes fine, system works fine, can't even tell the difference...

What are the most mundane things you use your Mac for?

The most mundane task I have done on my Mac would be, I believe, reading the comics. On the other hand, I get a lot more and more conveniently than getting the newspaper, so it is worth it :)

So what's it being replaced with? Surely they are not planning to only have a single iMac model :)

    Trash icons

Mine seems to work fine, and all I did was replace the relevant *.png file. Although I do seem to recall something about deleting the com.apple.dock.iconcache.[username] file before rebooting. Have you done that? If not, i suspect the icon is just being stored there, or something.

    ISync Help!?!?

You also have to disable Palm's address book and date book conduits, if you haven't already. You can't sync to both Palm Desktop and iSync. And yes, you do have to disable BOTH palm conduits for iSync to work at all. Unfortunately, you can't do a calendar sync to palm desktop and address sync to...

    Jaguar+Epson C60=:(

Yep, encountered it once. Restarted. Worked fine before and since. I have no idea what caused it, but aside from that one glitch, I have found my C60 to be an excellent printer. I convinced my parents to buy one, and all they had to do to get it working with 10.2 was plug it in. Didn't even...

If you do, tell me how you did it and how it came out! :)

Custom Mac's? Automotive Paint, Mushkin RAM, Cold Cathodes?

What I'd like is some way to put a light in my Apple Pro Speakers so they glow. That would be cool :) Especially if the light could pulse in time to the music :D.

Well, for #2, that is the speed the movie will run at when using fast forward or rewind. Don't know about #1 though. Never seen it on mine yet.

    Journaling FS coming in 10.2.2!

Well, not knowing anything about it, I would think it wouldn't have to remember everything, only what has changed (which is probably a small fraction of what is there). and that data could be highly compressed, I would think. However, not knowing how it works, I couldn't really say.

    scary os10.2 screen of death

I'm thinking that is the new kernel panic as well (oddly enough, it has only happened to me when running Virtual PC :P). Although the other day I did get a standard kernel panic as well (also when using Virtual PC), so apparently it doesn't always work, if the crash is bad enough or something.

    Journaling FS coming in 10.2.2!

Ok, this may sound stupid, as I know nothing about journaling file systems, but if using one causes a performance decrease, what is the point?
