    Mac to use Intel Chips!

I guess its time to break out the tissues, monday will be a very very sad day in apple history. The recompiling thing is gonna be a pain too, what if I'm a medium sized programming company and I decide I only want to compile for intel what will become of all of the legacy PPC machines. I don't...

Should I spend the extra for a super drive?

I'm getting a new powerbook for school next year and I plan on getting the 15" with 1.67Ghz G4. I'd like to upgrade the HDD to 100Gb but it gets a bit costly even with my $200 student discound. I can save $135 by downgrading the superdrive to a combo drive but I have my reservations about...

    Viruses On Os X

Well its interesting because in order to get a working trojan installed you would need to fool the user in to authenticating because its a privillaged operation...well thats not a very good trojan at all!!! I have read about something called xover but it requires the user to install it and...

    Boosting Gain on airport cards

hmmm well as I said I'll have to see the range I get on it, I've done a little searching about adding an antenna to a PB and it aint pretty so I think I'll opt not do that, I guess the only way you could really boost the output of the transmitter on an airport card would be to hack the driver...

    Boosting Gain on airport cards

In the near future I plan to get either an iBook or a Power Book and the range of the WiFi adapter is of concern. I'll have to see how it works and it may be sufficient but if not does anybody know of any way to boost the gain on those adapters. The reason being is I just installed some third...

    Viruses On Os X

Well my concern is not protecting against an OS X virus, as I am aware that such a virus does not exist. What I am trying to avoid is passing one on to some unfortunate windows user. Also it doesn't hurt to have a mechanism in place in the case that a virus is ever created for OS X.

    Viruses On Os X

With all this talk of viruses I'm trying to look into a decent anti-virus scanner. Right now I'm using clamXav, last night it found 8 viruses in my home folder, obviously windows viruses. However just because there aren't any OS X viruses yet it could be possible to create one. What I'm...

OSX G3 beige cannot find Wacom Tablet or External Disk Burner

For the burner check this out. I have gotten it to work with a sony burner before. What it does is it creates a drive profile for your drive so you can use it from all the iApps(including the Finder).

    iMac G5 super drive problems

Hey everyone, Just a question, my drive on my iMac G5 is very very load and is consistent thoug it works. I did try to use the apple install cds(because apple claims that they are balanced well) but that was no use. It does it with anything I insert. Is this a known problem, and if so do you...

Mac Mini as small + quiet + headless personal web server?

well by network speed I was also including your internet connection. As for ram, imagine having an open ssh session, and FTP uploading a ton of pictures and and 20 simultaneous hits - in a case like that it certainly wouldn't hurt to have 512Mb.

Mac Mini as small + quiet + headless personal web server?

I think that mini would be ideal for a small, low power consumption machine. I doubt it will heat up that hot with that little usage. You probably could get by with 256Mb of ram but you'd be better off with 512. As mentioned in other threads the network will most likely be the limiting factor.

    Sony Puppy Fingerprint ID

hmmm....how did that happen? they must not be very reliable in that case. does anybody know how these things work. Do they authenticate fingerprints against a password and then authenticate the password to the system?
