    Microsoft Flight Simulator for Mac

I bought X-Plane about 6 months ago, its amazing. It certainly blows MS Flight Sim way out of the water and most others. Best £50 i ever spent. It also runs great on my powerbook (without version 8 scenery)

    Which Backup Software

I know this isnt a perfect solution, but how about external HD and Carbon Copy Cloner. So if your machine goes down, you can bring it right back up again. Maybe not the best for keeping updated, but if you dont mind a week difference or so...depends what you do with your machine really.

how much memory am i using?

It closes by itself? Funny you should mention that, i saw that happen to a friend who's mac was in a bit of a state. Certain applications like that would open, not display, then close. I think it was fixed with a verify and repair permissions and a minor point system update. Let me know if...

OS X Tiger, Dictionaries And UK English

Ok, so this could be a silly question and i may have overlooked something obvious but... When in Mail (2.something) a lot of UK spellings are recognised as wrong, as they are in any Text box when i use "check spelling as i type". Is there a UK dictionary to switch to? Please? I know there...

how much memory am i using?

You can have a look in the Activity Monitor (on OS X, its kept in Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor) That will give you all the info you want.

considering moving to mac : powerbooks

Hi, I have a 12" powerbook and its great, i dont feel like i need anything else. Totally happy with it :o The powerbooks do not only mirror, you can expand your desktop to have 2 over 2 screens, with separate resolutions on each screen. As far as im aware its only the iBooks that are...

Can you change your "Short name"?

one more thing on this, i once found a guy who wrote a script that did it all for you. I used it on my fathers Mac, with no problems at all. here is a link (think its the right one): http://homepage.mac.com/frakes/MOSXPT/content/shortusername.html All you do is read the instructions...

    Help a new mac user!

Sorry, also had a quick browse, and although i think its unlikely, it could be your Firmware? To me that seems like bottom of the list of culprits atm.

    Help a new mac user!

Although never having seen this (so sorry if im way off the mark), i would think its the newer version of the old OS 8/9 Floppy with Question mark. Id say its not finding a system to boot, and there could be many causes for that. If you have a boot CD of some sort (like disk warrior) try...

    Panther STILL Rules Over Tiger?

Just to put in my comments, My 2004 1.33Ghz G4 PB 12" with 512Mb of ram ran great with panther... ..however Tiger runs even quicker! I hvae notices good speed gains in general tasks, the only area where it seems slower is with the Spotlight Search and Find functions. I would guess that i...

OS X Server and Active Directory

Thanks a lot!! That helped a greta deal, we will just use the xserve for home directories, that seems the simpler option. As for the SMB bits and Kerberos, thanks, since i wasnt fully aware of what was required there.
