    new powerbook + os9

Is there something, other than lacking os9 drivers on my hard drive, that would prevent me from installing OS9 on my new powerbook? Note that I can run classic. I want to run OS9, not classic, so that I can play a game that doesn't work in classic (tombraider trilogy (confirmed with the...

    tombraider and panther

My powerbook is pretty new (a couple of months, 17" 1.5ghs). That means I can't boot OS9? What I meant by playing it in OS X, is by using classic. So yes it runs in classic, but the graphics are screwed, e.g. Lara has almost no textures on her, she's made out of blocks. I've sent email to...

    tombraider and panther

Aspyr no longer has tombraider trilogy listed on their site (Oh, actually they do, but there is no information other than the name of the game). I thought that the OS9 driver partition was required in order to boot OS9 (not classic). If not, what is it's function?

    tombraider and panther

I have tombraider the trilogy from aspyr. On OSX the graphics are all screwed up. I used to boot into OS9 to play it. Now, I have a powerbook and the one and only drive was not formatted/labeled whatever with OS9 drivers, so I'm guessing I won't be able to install OS9 without reformatting...

    xauth/ssh and apple's X

It looks like ssh is now working without hanging, after I added KeepAlive no to my ssh_config file on the macosx box. This is together with the other two changes which were in the sshd_config file on the linux box.

    xauth/ssh and apple's X

Ooh, here is an interesting detail: on osxbox echo $DISPLAY > :0.0 xterm > success xterm -display $DISPLAY > Bus error ... Is that familiar to you?

    xauth/ssh and apple's X

Hmm. I've added TCPKeepAlive no and ClientAliveInterval 0 to sshd_config on the linux box, but I still find my X apps frozen after a while. It could be that it happens after inactivity, so that's why I thought those 2 sshd options might make sense. Any thoughts on what I need to do to get...

    xauth/ssh and apple's X

I'm using ssh -X to run programs on my linux box on my X server on mac os X 10.3.7 and this works well for about 5 minutes, and then the program becomes unresponsive. Do you know what the problem might be there? I thought I'd see if I get a different result using xauth, but I'm failing. I can...

    Microsoft remote desktop client

Okay, I got it working finally. In task manager on the windows machine, I select disconnect and then I can login with rdc. This was actually close to what was written in the relase notes, where it said to use "lock" the first time that you try to connect, but I didn't have "lock" anywhere...

    Microsoft remote desktop client

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be it either. I tried using another windows xp machine on my LAN to connect and get the same result. An additional tidbit: The user on my pc that I'm trying to login to has the user as a member of "remote desktop users" group...

    Microsoft remote desktop client

I have been using the ip address and connecting of course since I get the login dialog box in the mac rdc from my xp machine when I try to connect. I don't use the microsoft firewall, it's disabled, and I use zonealarm, though I only use it for connections going outside of my LAN. My LAN is a...

    Microsoft remote desktop client

I have remote desktop client on my mac which I use to connect to my work outside of my LAN. that works, but I haven't been able to connect to my windows xp machine, inside my LAN. In the client, I'm supposed to specify my user name, password and domain. However, I don't use windows domains on...

emacs: standard input is not a tty

The emacs in question comes from Fink. I should point out that what I've been doing since my attempts at putting it in the menu are failing, is running xterm and then running emacs from there (which successfully runs the X11 version of emacs which is in my path).

emacs: standard input is not a tty

I'm trying to add emacs to apple's cocoa wm menu. For my local machine if I simply add "emacs" I get an error on the console that standard input is not a tty when I try to run it. I cluelessly tried: emacs -t /dev/tty with no change. Any thoughts?

    My defective desktop preferences pane

Oops. I did have a .cache file... I used the locate command and it returned no matches. I guess updatedb is not setup. In anycase, deleting that and logging out/in didn't fix it, but deleting com.apple.preferencepanes.plist file did (after logging out/in). Thanks!

    My defective desktop preferences pane

Urggh. Any ideas on how I can track down the problem. I don't get an app that launches to allow me to select the desktop background in system preferences. If I click on /System/Library/PreferencePanes/DesktopPictures.prefPane System Preferences opens with a blank window What'll I do? This...

    Can't change desktop background

Hi, If I select desktop in system preferences, the busy mouse cursor appears for a while and it says "Loading desktop..." and never comes back. Any idea what I can do? This happened after I installed codetek virtualdesktop, figured out that X11 won't run if it is running and uninstalled it...
