RAM not showing up after repair

Also, you can test the RAM using your original system software discs. Insert the disc before reseting the computer and hold down the [option] key as the computer restarts. You will see an OS9 type selection screen appear, letting you choose the hardware test. Select it. You will be able to...

RAM not showing up after repair

Sounds like a serious hardware issue. Try resetting PRAM (probably won't do anything, but doesn't hurt to try). Hold down [apple]+[option]+P+R at startup until you hear a second reset chime. You will lose all your settings stored in PRAM, though.

Does anybody know of any good screensavers?

Some very cool screen savers I picked up a while back... Have a lot of the old ones the PC's used to have (and I was never able to find). Also has a Matirx imitator, very cool. http://downloads.illumineX.com/Downloads/iXScreenSavers.dmg

    Drunken (but sound-ish) spyware theory

just a curious thought... anybody remember the last time their computer was infected with a classic virus (nVirA, SevenDust, WDEF, etc...)?

    powerbook dos and donts

I kept the piece of plastic/foam that originally was in between the screen and the keyboard and I put it back there every time that I close the laptop. No scratches or marks on the screen whatsoever.

    Your Mac accidents

I used my G1 iPod like crazy during college to carry all my information and music around. Problem was that I plugged and unplugged the firewire cord so many times that the soddering came loose and the iPod wouldn't charge or transfer files/songs without pushing the plug one way or another...

Forcing OSX to update the .DS_Store file

Could this not be tested by making a disk image (.img) of the potential CD before burning and seeing if everything lines up ok. If it does then burn away. At least this will save on potential coasters.

Is there a way to rotate through alert buttons?

In MS Word (for the 2001 version, I know its old), the keyboard shortcut is just pressing the D key for "Don't Save" and Esc for "Cancel". This will probably work in later versions too. Keyboard shortcuts like these are things that should be standardized across the OS. Pity.

    PB 15" Power Consumption

there is a handy program called menu meters which lets me keep track of how hard my processor is working. whenever i am using a program that eats up processing power (as seen in the menu), the powerbook gets a bit toasty and the fans turn on. this utility may help you keep an eye on what makes...

G5 hanging coming out of sleep

I've had the exact same symptoms and problems on an old Blue and White G3 I used to have. I had to swap out the drive for a new one and the problem remedied itself. As a note of warning, get all essential data off of the drive ASAP and call up apple for a replacement drive (or buy one and...

Serious crash - 10.3.5 brand new eMac

Had the same thing happen to my Powerbook after I installed another 512MB chip... The first one I put in allowed me to start up, but it would crash after ~20 minutes (probably when the system finally hit the memory I installed). I swapped it in 3 times before I got one that worked consistently...

    Control clicking restarts Finder

Thanks, but that didn't help... BUT, I figured it out! Apparently I had an extra plugin buried in my user account's Library/Contextual Menu Items folder for an old application that I deleted a bit ago. I guess it was referencing an app that wasn't there anymore. The Finder probably thought...

    Control clicking restarts Finder

All that is in that folder (/System/Library/Contextual Menu Items/) is a file called: FolderActionsMenu.plugin. Should I either delete it or find a fresh copy?

    Control clicking restarts Finder

Deleted both the com.apple.finder.plist and the com.apple.finder.sidebar files, still have the same problem... I'll try poking around the preferences folders to see if anything else stikes me as odd... Any other suggestions would be helpful.

    Control clicking restarts Finder

Not yet, will a new copy of it show up after I delete it? (i.e. is it an essential file like the finder pref file was under OS 9?)

    Control clicking restarts Finder

I don't know when or how this developed, but whenever I bring up the contextual menu in the finder (OSX vers 10.3.5), the finder seems to restart (like it crash-quits and relaunches). What are the files associated with the contextual menu and can those files be reinstalled? This behavior...

    Complaints & Confessions

Not that its Apple's fault or anything, but I was really looking forward to getting a new 15" Powerbook before school started... Looks like its not gonna happen and I'm just a little irritated (got myself all worked up for nothing!) and depressed.
