    Dashboard Clock Hack

Heh, that's funny. If I were still there, I'd say hi. Hope you're enjoying the old home town. :)

    Publicity is killing me!

Hmm, so how is the publicity killing you? Unless the people in the house are pointing at you or something.

    Dashboard Clock Hack

You know, it's not that big a deal. It's not like the time is any different between the two. :p That said, I do wish they'd at least allowed one to put in a ZIP code or some such. Heh, I miss going to SA. I was born & raised in Corpus. ;) (Hmm, and as a side note, going to be there in...

Partitions for Swap, Users & Apps

It does mount right into the directory, but the Finder shows mounted drives/partitions on the Desktop, so you'll see it there as well. That doesn't mean that it's mounted there. It just shows up there as well. Rand, I agree with you for the most part, though there are some uses for...

Partitions for Swap, Users & Apps

Post back what your fstab file looks like. I do the same thing, use labels to mount drives. I haven't made /Users and /Applications mount points, but I don't see it being a problem. Here's how my /etc/fstab file looks. Just to note, the stars aren't actually there, I just put them there...

    Mac 10.4.1 is up!!

You're right, they don't, but they do have a sync rate.

    fstab in tiger

Um, just make the file /etc/fstab. It works. I use this to mount a partition at /var/vm. And to mount a few other partitions at other places (one at ~/Music). Works fine in Tiger! For anyone wanting to do this, this is how my /etc/fstab file looks: #Device Mount point...

    Mac 10.4.1 is up!!

Just some background for you, Beam Sync forces things to sync to the monitors refresh rate. There's some "discussion" going on in one of Apple's mailing lists complaining about it - seems to slow down OpenGL stuff significantly if another window is overlapping it. For the technically...

shell script doesn't run from cron any more

I can say that cron still works fine - I have a few custom cron jobs and they're still being run. Hmm, post up your script, and maybe we can figure out what may be going wrong with it.

[HOW TO] Remove iScroll2 when you get Kernel Panics on boot

Yes, and it tells you when you first start up in single user mode. :p First it tells you about fsck, then it tells you if you want to edit files, /sbin/mount -uw /.

    Need Network Help

Hmm. Is your aunt's PC getting it's connection from the router upstairs, or is it actually getting the connection directly from the cable modem? If it's getting the connection from the cable modem, you probably need to change that. And if that's the case, it's probably just luck that the PC...

LAN: internet access thru one airport?

Definitely need the hub, but you don't need crossover cables with Macs. They handle that on their own. Hmm, and you don't need a crossover cable going between computer <-> hub anyway, just computer <-> computer.

    Apple's sloppy widget JavaScript code

Well, it could possibly be there for the benefit of people writing widgets. People tend to look at working examples to create their own, and that clues you in to the fact that there are some debug things you can use while developing. Other than that reason, I wouldn't know why it was left...

    Urgent data recovery required!

Yeah, don't do any writes to the disk at all. Some of that 300 MB that was written possibly overwrote some of the files... And yes, data recovery services are usually very expensive. Do you have any backup of it at all? I mean, even if you can't use the applications that made the backup...

    Annoying Tiger Sounds

Wrong folders. Hard Disk -> System -> Library -> Components It's there. I promise. Oh, and Spotlight isn't set to find stuff in /System, so it wouldn't turn up in a search.

LAN: internet access thru one airport?

Hmm, so long as all the computers are connected to the one that has the AirPort card, it should work. The setup: On the computer that has the AirPort card, open up the Sharing preference pane in System Preferences, and switch to the Internet tab. Select the AirPort card in the pop up for...
