    Change timestamp?

touch is more powerful than just updating to the current time. You can change the timestamp to any date/time you want.

I can import .ics and .vcs files, I would hope you can export your info to similar formats.

In your opinion, how has the Intel transition gone?

Only to hijack this momentarily, but how does open office stack up as an office replacement? I'm relatively new to mac so I can't comment on the transition.

Are you a 'geek' or a 'creative' mac user

right, you can appreciate a painting, but that doesn't mean you are creative enough to make your own paintings. On the other note if you are not sufficiently proficient in either, then I don't believe this poll is for you. I answered geek as I use my mac (core solo mini) for its unix server...

    SSH Public Key Problems

the . in front of the ssh represents a hidden object. I believe you want your private key in there and your public key at Aplus.net.

"Mount" a Directory inside a Shared folder

? Forgive me because I'm not the most fluent in MS windows, but I was able to map a network drive to a subdirectory of a share and I was able to make a shortcut on the desktop to the subdirectory of a network share. Are these the same as "connect to server"?

ssh and running unix scripts from OSX

or you could setup a public/private set of keys for passwordless ssh.

What Does This Keychain Message Mean?

As far as I can tell. It's just a password manager program asking to transfer passwords associated with the older version to the updated version. Shouldn't be a big deal if you are already using it.

hi...is there a restore on OSX like as on Windows XP?

I think it is called deja, but I'm not sure if it will help you right now. The best way I know to move those 2800 files would be to go commandline (terminal) and use the mv (move) command. Be carefull as mv can really screw things up more! It does not ask if you are doing the right thing...

"Man" pages/command not working in Terminal Window

    1. try MANPATH=/usr/share/man export MANPATH I've seen where "export MANPATH /usr/share/man" wouldn't work (though I think it was with tcsh....) 2. add MANPATH=/usr/share/man export MANPATH right in the .bashrc should do.

"Man" pages/command not working in Terminal Window

yes. You should have a .profile and/or .bashrc (if using bash) to modify. A quick google for os x and manpath gave some examples of settings. Alternatively you could do a "find /usr -name man" to see where they are.

Netgear Router / Airport Express Problem

what do you mean dissappear? If the airport extreme becomes part of the netgears network, you will only need to access it by IP address through the netgear's network. It will no longer be an access point and probably no longer visible as a wireless access point. I would set a static IP on...

Netgear Router / Airport Express Problem

that blurb seems to suggest it should happen automatically. Is there a user interface that you can configure it? maybe that "wds node" is a hint from symphonix. Sorry I don't have an airport extreme base station.

Netgear Router / Airport Express Problem

from apple.com's airport extreme website "Add Music to Your Current Wireless Network If you already have a wireless network in place, you can use AirPort Express to add music to its capabilities. Let’s say, for example, you have AirPort Extreme set up in your den. There’s no...

NEW to MAC...seriously new. GONNA NEED HELP!

I wouldn't say this is a valid recommendation as os x is based on freebsd and apple's gui is closer to most *nix environments than a windows environment. With that said, I have a couple of friends that moved from windows to mac and they are loving it. They are not the most computer literate...

Syncing folders with Mac and PC

Is comandline out of the question? rysnc would have been my suggestion. browsing apple.com there seems to be sync folders. Never tried it before, but if the mac sees the PC as just another file system....

"Man" pages/command not working in Terminal Window

type env and see what your MANPATH is. I may be wrong, but I assume something has changed with your profile to not load in this variable.

I haven't tried with osx yet, but if you are comfortable with commandline "unrar -e <filename>" might work.
