Mac Mini to become a digital hub?

[begin off-topic Fryke: Yeah I should have just said it, so I will... Fryke, I told you so, didn't I? A lot of people were saying it would be at the time of the next conference, but simply listening to his exact words, in plain english (As an Englishman I can claim to have SOME knowledge of...

Mac Mini to become a digital hub?

mmh, I found this out from this article: http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0511macmini2.html Not withstanding the pseudo-elitist comments about the Mac mini, mine has served me well as my main computer and a true digital hub. Hell, I'm even running Lightwave and making animations with ease...

    Quicktime suddenly not working properly

I do apologise if there is a known issue or fix here, I've tried searching for the last hour without joy..... I've also tried searching the net but I've found nothing specific to this type of problem. I'm working on a project using DV movies and my Mac has been working with these files...

iPod Video Thread - (speculation, rumours etc.)

I wonder how many people will be choking down humble pie? "it's never going to happen" "bla bla bla" I think it's a tad expensive, it doesn't appeal to me, I'd go for another media player...

Beam syncing (afaik) prevents 'tearing', for example when dragging windows etc. The ill effects of turning it off is that 'tearing' can occur again, but the tradeoff is higher fps. I think I'm correct in saying that disabling beam syncing uses an undocumented API and therefore could disappear...

    Tiger

Nice idea, but that will only work (AFAIK) by forcing the app to quit, otherwise it will reset back to default. Also, it's not permanent, requiring it to be done each boot. Shunting graphics isn't really the problem though, it's more to do with the overall performance.

    Works like a charm

Haven't tried it, but I think it's a fantastic idea - just been reading about it. You guys deserve big wet kisses. Actually I'd probably volunteer to help out, I'm sure my decades of computer experience and years as a UNIX sysadmin and freelance analyst should be of some help? Anyway...

I've found (for those actually interested in the original point of the thread) that using OnyX to disable the dashboard DOES give some relief to the gloppy performance I've been referring to. Of course, then one is running a crippled system, and as per my experience so far, tomorrow it could run...

Missing Sync. Used it. It works.

    Palm goes to the darkside...

This kills dead ANY credibility for Palm's OS. What a shame. So, if you're not into having a phone with PDA functions (coz not all of us want radiation induced tumors or God knows what over the coming decades), what are the options now? Windows or....? Zaurus?

Veljo, Enjoyed reading your comments, I am probably in the minority when I say I really like brushed metal, in fact, everyone I've spoken to in the 'real' world likes it too. More brushed metal for me! Get rid of the cheap, tacky plastic! It does seem like Apple are just using commercial...

    Tiger

Yes it does that. To add, I'm now a breath away from reinstalling my Mac back to Panther, I really think Tiger is pure sh*t. It runs like a dog on my mini, I'm furious with how poorly my Mac now performs, after installing a few apps and loading in some extra Garageband loops, the system is...

iPod Nano: A Dream Come True!

Oh my word! THAT is a really nice bit of kit, I don't have a shuffle anymore (complicated reasons - but I loved it), for a little more money a 2GB Nano is very tempting, I love it. It's so small, it hurts my brain! As soon as I can afford it, I'll be getting a black one. :-)

OS X "Pipe and Slippers" Edition, anyone?

If you haven't forked out for Tiger, don't. That's my honest advice, it's not worth it - really. Stick with Panther which (if you haven't got it) you can pick up at ever cheaper prices. This 'must upgrade' ethos is something which certainly was not in the Mac user world when I got my first...

    iTunes 5

VigilantX, without wanting to violate any rules here, and with homage to Battlestar Galactica... frak off. I'm a bit vexed about the growing inconsistancy on my desktop, I keep telling myself... ..TRANSITIONS.. perhaps we are seeing that here with iTunes 5, I love brushed metal...

    Tiger

Ah, words of wisdom from a fellow UNIXer, you're right, I'd allow it to slip on KDE or GNOME, but this is a paid-for product, not flippin cheap either and a critical part of the Mac user experience is the consistancy and predictablilty of use of the GUI. Take the red close button on the...

Catharsis is good for the soul, when we bottle up gripes they grow and then all manner of problems can arise, so I'm going to vent my rage.. ..this IS a rant, feel free to ignore it or disagree or join in. Am I the only one who is disappointed by Tiger? It seems like so much was promised but...
