    Fink/X11 problems

Check to see if http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/x11/trouble.php#immedate-quit helps. That page is a good compilation of problems and solutions with XFree86.

    SNOOD (mac os x version)

As far as I can tell from http://www.snood.org/ the answer is no. However, you should be able to play it fine in Classic mode. I haven't tried this to be sure.

Whatever it meant, it sounded very deep...and disturbing.

    iPod on SNL

It was a heck of a lot funnier than the SNL commercial before it.

Yeah, that was Steve Wozniak's hobby. I think they did raise capital other ways, though.

Shell scripts (as an alternative to applescript)

That's right, the open command doesn't work unless that particular user is logged in. You should check man osascript, which allows you to run AppleScripts from the command-line. For running a text file (it doesn't even have to be precompiled), you just type osascript foo.scpt or to...

Timed Random Desktop Pictures are Here

Another good option is SwitchPic, which automatically changes the desktop without logging out and back in. It's nice, except it seems to have a bit of trouble when you want it to randomly pick more than 100 pictures. Anyway, you can get it at www.versiontracker.com

    Damn Rod Stewart!

Yeah, I have no problem with the song itself, but it seems very odd to have at the beginning of a Star Trek show. I did a search and found some place that claimed to have the classical music that had been written for the intro. That tune was actually worse.

how do i install gnome ontop of X11?

Vic, doesn't that setup exec Sawfish twice? I believe gnome-session opens up it's own Window manager (as set through the preferences), so you could probably take out sawfish. Just wondering, since I often had a rogue version of sawfish stay open after quitting XDarwin before changing this.

How Slow are Xfree win mangers supposed to be???

If you run XFree86 in rootless mode, live window dragging should be as smooth as any other window in OS X. Resizing ain't pretty still, but hey, it's something. And yea, OroborOSX is great. It makes using Gaim a lot nicer.

    Damn Rod Stewart!

Actually, it's sung by Russell Watson, doing a remake of Rod Stewart's "Faith of the Heart". All this and more can be found out at http://enterprise.psiphi.org a good source of information, and also a place to confirm that there are people with less of a life than myself... Barely, but less still.

That is an interesting theory, if I'm reading you right. I think it'd be cooler if Yoda temporarily snapped, though.

how to make quicktime films louder

Up to QuickTime 3 you used to be able to do this in the player, and if you're watching a movie in a browser window you still can: hold the shift key and click on the sound button. There should be a volume slider that has lines dividing it into thirds. Each of those represents "100%", as in...

It's not just you. I'm seeing fourteen replied to threads that have yet to be viewed. I honestly thought more people were reading what they typed than that.
