    restrict users space

Type 'man quota' in the terminal. The command is there, though to be honest I don't know whether filesystem quotas are actually enforced or not in this rev of the OS. Let us know how it goes!

Turning a IIsi into a terminal for Mac OS X

You could probably just run ZTerm on the old Mac. The challenge, of course, is that your new mac doesn't have serial ports.

    OSX Browser!

Well, Mail does have my favorite Cyberdog mail feature -- fast V-Twin indexed searching. I do agree, though, that the integrated feel of Cyberdog is nothing I've ever been able to duplicate in any suite of internet apps, on any platform. I still feel, for example, that the Cyberdog notebook...

Lemonade was the first program I ever ran on our school's Apple ][ -- from a cassette!

How sercure is OS X's Web Sharing and File Sharing?

First, all the activity you are seeing is 0wned Microsoft IIS machines trying, fruitlessly, to infect you with the NIMDA worm. Being that you are running the Apache webserver platform on UNIX, you are immune to it. Those boxes were trying to infect you before you enabled Web Sharing too --...

Some Pocket PC info and the iPaq 3870

So will you finally be able to sync between these things and an OS X box?

    I remember...

Computing experience: - In 7th grade (1979 or so), our science teacher, Mr. Nedela, got a 16K Apple II + with a cassette drive. The big upgrade he got during the summer was a floppy drive. - I programmed in Apple Basic and UCSD Pascal on Apple II's in high school. - 1st computer owned...

    Netscape X Rulez...

Here's a link to a good, stable branch build that even comes packaged up all pretty in a .app bundle and a disk image. It's off the very stable .94/.95 branch, which is due to be branded off into a new Netscape release any day now, so it's pretty polished...

    Fizilla/mach compile probs

Building Fizzilla-Mach currently requires a specially revved compiler from Apple. The Mozilla guys are trying to get permission to distribute it to the public. Keep an eye on the newsgroup netscape.public.mozilla.macosx for further updates.

    OSX Browser!

As far as making Mozilla use the purty Quartz text rendering that OmniWeb uses, there is an open feature request to implement just that. It's been seeing quite a bit of activity over the last few days, too. http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74245 I use (and love) Mozilla on 6...

What's your favorite OS X screensaver module?

I have a lot of fun with the Words saver -- it's fun to grab add text files from all over the net to it. I've used things from Project Gutenberg, plus things like the Rocket Car legend, Steve Albini's "Some of Your Friends are Already This F***ed", Neal Stephenson's "In The Beginning Was...

    Netscape X Rulez...

In addition to the fix for CPU hogging and the dual-processor fixes mentioned above, a number of usability enhancements have showed up in builds over the last few weeks: 1. In the last few days, they fixed the window maximize behavior so that it respects the Dock location (yay!) 2...

What's your favorite OS X screensaver module?

I wanted to list more, of course... Did they ever rev the Mr. Hankey saver to support sound? The sound is the best thing about the Windows version, and I could never really get into the OSX version without all the splats and hidey-ho's. I'd really like to see FlowFazer make a comeback --...

First AppleScript to use XML-RPC and Script Menu - Cool!

Well, I don't use Blogger, but I have to say I was fascinated with the XML-RPC examples Apple supplied on their new Applescript/OS X webpages. I never really "got" the whole SOAP thing before I saw these. It looks like as the scripting community gets up to speed with this stuff we'll see some...

What's your favorite current screensave module for OS X? What modules would you like to see ported (from After Dark, X11 Screensaver, Windows, or wherever?)

    Mac OS X 10.1 (5G64) GM- HOOAHHH!

I recall reading that Apple was interested in moving from wget to curl (a similar application that actually has a few features wget lacks), since wget is a GNU tool (hence, under the GPL) and curl is licensed under something fairly close to the X11 license (much more compatible with the APSL...

compiled version of Net PBM for OSX

I have netpbm, courtesy of Fink . There's a little bit of work involved in getting Fink up and running, but once you have it installed it's a pretty pain free way to get lots of traditional unix apps running on OSX.
