    What size partitions did you make? The documentation states that on the beige G3's, X must be ENTIRELY within the FIRST 8GB of the drive.

    buggy release.....some carbon apps don't run etc if you thought 56 was good, wait 'til you try 4k60....finally, window resizing is smooth and fast....rock solid too.

    how to login as console?

    in the newer builds, you access/change the "root" passowrd by starting from the os x cd and when the installer window comes up, look in the install menu where you'll see the "reset password.." option.

    i would not definitely say that it's the dual monitors causing the problem. apple says dual monitors *may not work.* well, i have 2 monitors, both driven by ati chips, and the beta installed and works just fine.

    just to clarify the previous post by ravedog... apple has not said "it won't work." apple has said it does not support installs on machines prior to apple g3. i suspect that it will install in most pci based power macs, with perhaps some of the upgrade manufacturers that required software...

    Deleting/uninstalling Omniweb

    The Installer app he's talking about can be found in the Applications->Utilities folder...launch it and give it a try.... As for file permissions.... try logging in as "root" using the password you assigned to your admin account...that may work. also, there will be an improved version...

    Success! - Dual monitors

    Did my install last night, here's the specs: Beige G3 desktop, upgraded to 466Mhz, 256MB ram, 6GB SCSI HD and 40GB IDE Drive. 2 monitors. The "main" monitor is driven by an ATI Nexus32 PCI card, the 2nd is driven by the onboard ATI Rage Pro chip. No problem at all with the install...

    When the Beta expires, will people be hosed?

    I think it is best for all to install the beta on a separate partition...then whatever happens next may, whichever path you choose, you'll be okay......just use the system disk to select your os9 partition again. and of course we all back up our important stuff...don't we????

    it is available from the apple store in canada....it is just not on the website as yet. i placed my order over the telephone this morning, and was told they were expecting it in today or tomorrow. i suspect that once they have it, it will appear in the webstore as well. oh yeah - $45...
