Bulk scanning of photo prints and Photoshop actions

Bobw -- Right. Scanning is the painful part. I'm surprised places like ofoto or snapfish don't offer this service. And Lazzo, yes I love that tradition of the double z's. It's so endearing.

    Help needed

Hey dig-sparx: Could you recommend a list of "killer aps" to run under X11? I don't know where to look.

Bulk scanning of photo prints and Photoshop actions

More good advice, Lazzo. I'm also investigating services to do this for me -- high volume scanning services. The best I can find is around $0.40/scan. (about a quarter quid?) I figure if I can find a place that will do it for about 25 cents, it'll be worth it to go that route. Anyone know...

PC (gasp!) DOS (double gasp!) question

Hi All, This forum seemed most appropos so here goes: I need to batch rename a bunch of files within a single directory in DOS -- I'm adding ".jpg" to the end of each file. What's the command? If I had to guess it'd be something like ren * *.jpg But I'd rather not fool around...

Bulk scanning of photo prints and Photoshop actions

Lazzo -- thoughtful advice, thanks. I wonder if I could automate the process further -- i.e. 1. put 4 images on glass, one in each corner 2. Since they'll always be 4x6, have a photoshop action automatically select the 4x6 in the upper left, make new doc, save by sequential name 3. Repeat...

    Built-in fax: where's the demand?

Yes, I often need to fax invoices to clients, and this a) eliminates my needing to print and THEN fax and b) gives me a nice digital storage and retrieval system for all my faxes. I can't wait!

Bulk scanning of photo prints and Photoshop actions

Hi All, I would like to digitize hundreds of 4x6 and 3x5-inch prints from my collection and I'm looking for any helpful tips on minimizing the pain. I would like to set up some kind of Photoshop action, but can't include the scanning part, because the scanning interface is an Epson plugin...

Fair price if you ask me. Thanks.

Panther Fax and internal modem or AEBS

Hi All, I'm looking forward to Panther, esp. the built-in fax feature. Questions 1) If I want my mac to handle incoming remote access calls as well as faxes, is it likely Panther will be able to hande both? 2) Is it likely Panther will be able to accept faxes through the Airport...

    Panther -- How much?

Would it be safe to bet that Panther will be $129 like Jaguar was when it was released? Anyone know?

    Do you believe in aliens?

That fungus grew inside the MIR was real but not alien. Here's the "straight dope" from Cecil Adams: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/010713.html And the question "Do You Believe in Aliens" should be broken down into three questions: a) Do you believe there is life elsewhere? b) Do you...

    How to network computers?

I think you're ok because you've got a router in between your lan and the internet. Any service you want to make available to the outside world would have to be explicitly set in your router's port mappings. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong -- I'm sort of a novice when it comes to networking.

drag folders into dock? won't work!

yes, that's how it's done. I guess the left side is reserved for apps only.

Drive filling with something -- what?

Ah, cool. Thank you. Now the trick is to figure if any of those processes shouldn't be running. Some are obvious: "Safari, Mail, Dock, etc." but some are cryptic to my new-to-Unix brain: "slpd, cupsd, nfsiod (x4)." How can I discover the source of the processes? In other words, if it was...

Drive filling with something -- what?

Y Dobon, Thanks for your thoughts. I have a gig of RAM, so I wouldn't say I don't have much memory to start with. I do think FontAgent Pro has been acting a but fishy -- slowing down the system. I have A LOT of fonts, but only what I need turned on. But I wonder if this could have...
