iLife -- appears I'm screwed and must pay another $50?

If you don't want to pay $50, then don't use it, use something else. It costs alot of money to develop applications, you can't expect them to be free always. People have been moaning and complaining about iPhoto and iMovie since the last update "it's too slow", "it doesn't sync audio right"...

    TDK indiDVD Burner

Check http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso. Depending on the model, some things may or may not work. Most likely it will work with Toast 6, it may or may not work via iTunes and the Finder depending on which model it is. Some of the indiDVD's are Plextor drives, others are...

If you have .Mac, you can download Photostudio X for free. Another option would be to buy Photoshop Elements. Altho most places sell it for $99, Walmart has it for $58, both the PC and Mac versions come in the same box. Brian

    HP 245 4x6 photo printer

Did you crop the photo? I'm betting you probably didn't :) I have the Photosmart 130 and had the same problem. The picture that comes from your camera is not in a 4x6 aspect ratio. When you stick a card in the printer, the printer automatically crops your image for you. Double click on the photo...

    Garage Band!?

If it does exist, it is most likely a consumer level audio editing application based on Logic Platinum, kinda like Final Cut Express but for audio instead of video. Ofcourse, this is only my guess :) Brian

what FTP program do you advise?

I very very very highly recommend using the ftp command from command line. If you really insist on something else, ncftp is also a very nice command line ftp program. Or, if you really want to use something with a GUI, use the Finder (seehttp://www.lowendmac.com/x-basics/03/0211.html for a...

Is .MAC really worth the $100???

It's worth every penny to me. I have upgraded to 200MB, soon to 300MB because of all my photo's online. Using the publishing to .Mac from iPhoto has saved me hours upon hours of time for publishing all my photos, and makes viewing photo's nice and easy. I've also used alot of the free software...
