    iTunes shared library enigma

It's a feature of LimeWire. You can turn on iTunes access to your shared LimeWire folder. I'd show you the Option pane in LimeWire if I could figure out how to do it. It has to be on one's local network. The default is to NOT share with iTunes, so your colleague did it with malice...

opening "unix executable files" in os 10

That's a feature. When "Launch Services" sees a file it can't identify by extension, it defaults to calling it a Unix Executable. You'll have to assign standard filename extensions to your "stuff" to get OSX to identify it.

    Toast creating bad disks

If Toast works on another Mac, prettyplease tell us the differences between the two: processor/speed, OS, brand and type of optical drive, all that stuff. Did you let Toast verify the disc after burning? What brand and X-ness discs? What burn speed? Have you used a (dirt cheap) laser lens...

Lost File Recovery - Help Needed

When Leslye inadvertently lost a gig-card worth of pix, I tried File Salvage from Subrosasoft.com. It found all the pix (She stopped using her Mac as soon as she realized what she had done), and it was a mere $80 to activate the recovery feature. Lots cheaper than a divorce. And less paperwork.

Lost File Recovery - Help Needed

It may be "lost" only to Spotlight, which has a few blind spots, as it were. Try the freebie EasyFind. Get it here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11706

    can't play '.smil' files....

The ".smil" is just a pointer. You need Real Player to play the program it points to. Get it here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540

Sound issues with WMV in Flip4 Mac Studio

I suspect you'd have been better off foregoing Studio and getting the cheaper ($23) VisualHub.

    Program - open file -

You might look at St Clair Software's "Default Folder X" from the usual shareware suspects (versiontracker.com, etc). That is what it does well.

    wmv opens in itunes

One thing you DO NOT WANT TO USE is Windows Media Player. It doesn't do much on a Mac, and MicroSoft stopped development on it a long time ago, pointing Mac folk to Flip4Mac. Or iTunes for that matter. iTunes doesn't really do WMVs. Do the splat-I (get info) on a wmv and choose QuickTime...

Error code when writing video ts file

Gary, you forgot to mention the important stuff. How did you get a VIDEO_TS folder (not a file) onto your hard drive? What movie is it? What Region? What DVD writer do you have? What brand and type of DVD are you attempting to write to and at what speed? I'd guess you used MacTheRipper 2.6.6...

What does the unimplemented trap bomb error message mean?

It's most often a program bug. Or the app doesn't play nice with 7.1. Nothing for it unless you're the programmer.

    itunes help PLEASE HELP!

Batgirl, it might be as simple as crud on your laser lens. Go to Radio Shack or WallyWorld and get a laser lens cleaner. Cheap. Try it before replacing the optical drive.

    iTunes error (pics)

I'm with SatCure. I couldn't make hide nor hair of those thumnails even when expanded. Are you saying your iTunes "art" entries are corrupted? I saw a post about that recently, and the only suggestion was to replace the art from backup. Or from Advanced/GetAlbumArtwork if you can. Maybe one of...

    mp3 to wma

QT Pro & Flip4Mac do not convert anything to WMA. The only export of the WM persuasion is "WMV," which isn't exactly the same thing.

Spotlight has blind spots. Get the freebie EasyFind (versiontracker.com). It doesn't look inside files, but it finds better. I keep mine in the dock.

    DVDs locking up.

You have a couple years (at least) on that superdrive. When did you last clean its laser lens? Apple recommends against lens cleaner discs for slot loaders, but if it's acting up, it can't hurt to try before replacing it. I'd bet those WallyWorld DVD players are tray loaders. Rather more...

    Need help with Ripper, please

Movies on "standard" DVDs are usually compressed. When MTR rips one, the output VIDEO_TS folder is uncompressed. That's why you see 8gb file sizes. As Microsoft Tech Support says "It's a feature, not a bug." Geezerbuttz has enough on his plate dealing with protection schemes. He isn't...

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D Drive Problem, Please Help

Try a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner. If that fails, get a 111 for $40 or so. BTW, flashing couldn't address your problem. I don't understand why folk think flashing firmware will solve a problem. It "just" adds an enhancement or two.
