That's a feature. When "Launch Services" sees a file it can't identify by extension, it defaults to calling it a Unix Executable. You'll have to assign standard filename extensions to your "stuff" to get OSX to identify it.

If Toast works on another Mac, prettyplease tell us the differences between the two: processor/speed, OS, brand and type of optical drive, all that stuff. Did you let Toast verify the disc after burning? What brand and X-ness discs? What burn speed? Have you used a (dirt cheap) laser lens...

When Leslye inadvertently lost a gig-card worth of pix, I tried File Salvage from Subrosasoft.com. It found all the pix (She stopped using her Mac as soon as she realized what she had done), and it was a mere $80 to activate the recovery feature. Lots cheaper than a divorce. And less paperwork.

I suspect you'd have been better off foregoing Studio and getting the cheaper ($23) VisualHub.

You might look at St Clair Software's "Default Folder X" from the usual shareware suspects (versiontracker.com, etc). That is what it does well.

One thing you DO NOT WANT TO USE is Windows Media Player. It doesn't do much on a Mac, and MicroSoft stopped development on it a long time ago, pointing Mac folk to Flip4Mac. Or iTunes for that matter. iTunes doesn't really do WMVs. Do the splat-I (get info) on a wmv and choose QuickTime...

Gary, you forgot to mention the important stuff. How did you get a VIDEO_TS folder (not a file) onto your hard drive? What movie is it? What Region? What DVD writer do you have? What brand and type of DVD are you attempting to write to and at what speed? I'd guess you used MacTheRipper 2.6.6...

It's most often a program bug. Or the app doesn't play nice with 7.1. Nothing for it unless you're the programmer.

Batgirl, it might be as simple as crud on your laser lens. Go to Radio Shack or WallyWorld and get a laser lens cleaner. Cheap. Try it before replacing the optical drive.

Get a more capable app than Disk Utility: Disk Warrior or Tech Tool Pro.

QT Pro & Flip4Mac do not convert anything to WMA. The only export of the WM persuasion is "WMV," which isn't exactly the same thing.

Try a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner. If that fails, get a 111 for $40 or so. BTW, flashing couldn't address your problem. I don't understand why folk think flashing firmware will solve a problem. It "just" adds an enhancement or two.
