    Adobe launches Lightroom (Aperture-like app)

I had to read this three times before I realized you were talking about the fact that Lightroom is released on Mac OS X before Windows - not that it was released before the competitors (since Aperture's been out for a while =)

    new iPod, new iMac, PhotBooth

Did anyone notice that the iPod's battery life when playing video is either 2 or 3 hours depending on the model? Definitely a huge problem (one of several I guess, like screen size) for anyone thinking about using it as a movie player on long flights, better have (several!) battery backup. I'd...

    Apple iTunes - 6.0

I still wouldn't buy regular episodes with that quality, especially since the playback in iTunes is so ridiculously poor. I'm much more likely to watch them with Tivo, or wait to buy the DVDs when they come out. However, I AM very interested in the potential, and the home media aspects. I'm...

    Tiger and linux SMB browsing

Not you...cbolin. We already know yours works. ...And I really mean either running smbmount, or trying to connect to his shares by going to Finder, hitting CMD-K (or Go->Connect to Server), then typing in smb://<IP address of SMB server>.

    Tiger and linux SMB browsing

What happens if you try to connect directly to the server instead of browsing to it? One method creates a direct mount, the other one creates an "automount" of sorts. When I hear complaints about OS X SMB compatibility users are usually trying to use the browser (which for whatever reason...

    iPod 30GB ?

I just checked the store for the first time in quite a while (so I know I'm not seeing cached info), an dI only see 20GB and 60GB on the US store?

    Yahoo file transfer still working?

No, I definitely don't get that - I just tried a 4KB file and it still errors. Bizarre. I'm thinking this may have started after they did their upgrade to "Yahoo! with Voice!" for Windows users. Can anyone confirm that it IS working for them?

    Yahoo file transfer still working?

Hi all, I've done some searching but haven't seen the same thing reported elsewhere. Hopefully this isn't a dup. Any time I try to transfer a file to another user with Yahoo! IM file transfer, I get the following: "The Yahoo! Messenger service has sent the following error message: The...

Mac OS X on intel PCs?

Rosetta (and apparently some apps) will not run without the SSE3 instructions. However, I see that some hobbyists have found ways to map the SSE3 instructions onto others (mostly SSE2) - so Rosetta et al run, albeit at a somewhat reduced rate. It's unclear whether OS X will continue to have...

Mac OS X on intel PCs?

Actually, yes, there is. The development releases of the the OS require Intel TPM chips, and SSE3 support. Obviously Intel's not going to license their TPM system to AMD chipset builders, and SSE3 support is not in most AMD chips (though it's not in most Intel chips either). However, is...

Should I stay or should I Go!

No. I have PCs that are quieter under heavy loads. My iMac is somewhat louder than I expecte. It doesn't especially bother me, but my experience is apparently somewhat common, and the new iMacs ARE slightly re-engineered to be quieter. Thanks for letting me know why I think the way I do, though.

Should I stay or should I Go!

Reportedly many of the problems with the original iMacs, as you've implied, have been fixed or improved with the second release. Heat and noise "problems" are definitely improved after minor redesigns. Of course, the problems do tend to affect a very small percentage of machines, but it's...

    Flash iPod Mini

I'd counter that many non-color LCDs can not be read well in any light as well. This has always been a problem of LCDs in general. I'd say that one of the basic requirements of a color screen on iPod would be high viewability. As it is, I do have a big personal problem with my 3G iPod's...

Mac OS X on intel PCs?

Yes, but since it's already been said that Windows will dual-boot on Macs, I don't see how your argument makes any sense, still. Running OS X on a non-Apple PC still does not provide "access to more hardware". (Besides, dual-booting makes little sense IMO. I'd much rather see...

    New mouse

Good lord, dude. Steve Jobs didn't just grant you a reprieve on your life sentence plus buy you a new car... They put out an interesting mouse...With not much that you couldn't have bought from another vendor years and years ago. It is, however, one less thing for the Windows zealots to...

    New mouse

Yeah, I just finally read the review =) The tactile clicking is a good thing. The need to lift fingers to click left or right, however, REALLY worries me, though. I'm not sure if it's just a learned thing (totally against my instinct right now), but I suspect if it's very sensitive, that...

    New mouse

Good, this was one of my last irritations of Apple hardware. I understand the justification for the one-button mouse, but over the last couple of years it's become painfully obvious that even Apple doesn't believe that the UI is more "elegant" with only one button. It's seemed more like...

What other Apple "no-gos" are left?

Haven't we had an Apple program that ran on Windows for years and years? However, I get the point. I'm not so sure that your suggested next step quite fits in the same vein, but definitely opening OS X to non-Apple hardware (even if it's just a subset of "select" vendors) would definitely...

New Mac Minis and iBooks support core image?

Yes, as was already mentioned, the 9550 supports Core Image. There's a number of cards on that list that Core Image runs on - note that the list says that the list "includes" those cards, and isn't "only" those cards.
