does this work with different size partitions? you could always be an uber-geek and do a dump partition1 | restore partition2 from the command line.. That won't transfer your boot blocks, but I've had good luck with the recent openfirmware recognizing startup volumes copied using ghetto-style..

or just workstations. if you've got a couple ide drives in there, you can mirror/stripe for performance and redundancy reasons. Unfortuntately, they're still ide drives and will take your cpu..

you've got to change the format first on a osx machine, using diskcopy (convert to cdr master image from dmg), and then you can burn it anywhere. I haven't tried this, I used the hdiutil command line utility to convert the image. But I am in the same situation, as I burn cds on my linux box...

well yes and no, all of redhat's rpms have crazy dependencies (try installing any newish rpm on a 6.2 box.. nope? then try the src.rpm, and then you see you have to upgrade 30 more rpms to satisfy dependencies).. but just the format itself I think is a really good one. the religious debate...

why? I think rpms are a hell of a lot better than almost any other packaging format, for many reasons. why do you think they're no good? ever try downgrading a solaris package? and can you even remove macosx packages? no seriously, I think the openports idea is a good one, finally a ports...
