[HOWTO] - Switch between open tabs in Safari

When you're a bachelor living alone and there's nothing to eat except a loaf of bread, you start to think "yep, nothing beats sliced bread."

    How does application installation work

Mac OS X Technology Overview http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/OSX_Technology_Overview/index.html Specifically, I suggest you click on "Mac OS X Architectural Overview" on the left menu, then "Mac OS X Runtime Architecture" under that. If you go through the whole doc...

    Releasedate for Doom 3 announced

Heh, I wish I can dig up the link, maybe later. Nvidia has admitted that they made the 6800 specially for John Carmack. That was their whole marketing strategy. It's not some secret propoganda, they're actually proud to champion Doom3, the same way ATI is the brand of choice for Half-Life 2...

    Releasedate for Doom 3 announced

Just FYI: Nvidia's GeForce 6800 was MADE specifically for Doom3. If there was any blatant a** kissing in the computing industry this is it. A hardware company making a piece of hardware specifically for this game to run well and look great. IIRC, the G4 towers can't handle the 6800 cards, is...

What would you say to someone with no programming experience...

http://www.freeprogrammingresources.com/cppbooks.html There are quite a few (older) books available in web page form that are free. You just view them online. Not much has fundamentally changed in the C/C++ languages over the years so the info in these books are still applicable. If you...

Dual booting Linux: Two simple questions.

Mac-on-Linux: keep in mind that some hardware won't work as expected when in this mode. For example I *think* hardware 3D is disabled. Airport won't work in that Mac instance on Linux. Network connection is created by creating a dummy device that links to the actual device in Linux. Basically...

No paging, so why more RAM?

Safari is a bad example. Take into consideration things like bookmarks, history data, whether or not it goes to a certain homepage on startup, etc. Little factors such as those might not impact memory usage very much, but if the differences are enough, then you won't see it using the same exact...

    G5 vs x86 performance question

EDIT: Oh I see what you're saying. The laggy presentation of the main window where you can almost see everything being created as it's loading. Again, it's up to the developer. I've seen and done both: show the main window then create the UI. Or create the main window, create the UI then show...

No paging, so why more RAM?

Hardware does not know/care, will not care, about your RAM. It's completely up to the OS (the kernel more specifically). It's not like the G5 CPU itself will say "oh I'm gonna reserve X amount of RAM for this app, and Y amount for that app." Nope, don't worry yourself over that at least. The...

    star wars galaxies

That game is over rated. Not the best MMORPG out there, you'll really have to like the Star Wars Genre to put up with the mundane grinding.

Is there a bin or sbin folder for the root user?

Another reason to NOT put user apps in /bin or /sbin is OS updates might wipe them out. Put them in a safe place (as in not to be overwritten from an update) then make soft links to a place accessibly by cron.

Quitting apps from the command line`

I've been searching around, can't find a definite answer. Most *nix OSes write a *.pid file (ex: vnc.pid) that contains the proccess ID. The problem is, I can't figure out where those pid files are stored in OSX (I'm at work, my iBook at home). Can't find it on Google either, so maybe have a...

How do you buy shares in AAPL?

http://game.marketwatch.com The above site is what became of "Virtual Stock Exchange." It's a web based "game" my friends and I use to play in high school. Basically you are given virtual money, and you buy stocks in real life companies, the numbers are all real world, the cash is just a...

I am suprised no one has said anything about Half-Life 2...

Porting Direct3D to OpenGL is not the problem. The problem is the Source engine uses a lot of shaders. Porting shaders is another big task on top of the D3D -> OGL translation. From what I hear, OGL shaders in MacOSX is a bit behind, waiting for Tiger to fix that.

Asus new model an iBook wannabe ...

I just want to point out the irony that Asus is one of 2 companies that manufactures the iBooks for Apple. And here you go poking fun at them, lol. Apple doesn't own factories that assemble notebooks. They're assembled in Taiwan by Asus.
