Legal copies of Mac OS X

How can I make a legal (and fully working) copy of my own Mac OS X CD? Now I "only" have the original but since I have had damages to other CD-ROMs before, I wish I could make a backup copy of it. Just burnig a simple copy seems to lose the hidden files behind. Any workaround available?

    Word X

And now on top of all - my beta version of Office v. X has expired "in the middle of nowhere". And my full retail version won't be here beofre Xmas. Oops... What can I do? All suggestions are greatly appreciated. ----- iMac 500 Mac OS X 10.1.1

    Netscape X

Even though Netscape starts very slowly it has one feature I particularly enjoy, its built-in web editor, called the Composer. It might not be the most powerful web editor available (and it's also extremely slow!) but it works and it's free! I regard this as a very useful feature which other...

Why is IE the only app that crashes on OS X?

IE also crashes on an G3 iMac 500 with 9.x/10.1 on the same partition. But now that you mention it, I haven't had a crash in a long time. Could it be that 10.1.1 has actually solved a few problems?

    Native FTP program?

Here's where you can download Transmit: http://www.panic.com/transmit/ It might not be "perfect", but at least it's free! :-)

    Word X

How can I open third-party application files, f.e. WordPerfect documents in Word X? The onyl document filters I can discover are Word and AppleWorks - but what about StarOffice, Lotus, WordPerfect and others? Or do I have to take this as a sign that my WordPerfect data are "history"? Any...

Why is IE the only app that crashes on OS X?

I hope you are right about the Mac unit of M$ that they are the "good guys". Originally, I was trying to see it that way myself, but since both IE and Word X (test version) are frequently crashing on me - while other Mac OS X applications are not - I have my doubts... Of course, the Mac unit...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

My wish list for Christmas: - full support of ALL Unix/Linux applications (WordPerrfect!) - German and other language dictionaries for Mail - PGP for Mail - FTP capacities built-in - a simple text editor that lets you write HTML without perverting the source code (German Umlaute etc.) -...

fonts in X: post script or true type?

For some reason "my" good old TTF fonts haven't worked on Mac OS X so I had to convert them to the Mac format. A nice way of doing that is TransType 2.0, a still uncarboized but handy application from fontlab.com. The only hatch: The demo only works for three days. So hurry up once you have...

Why is IE the only app that crashes on OS X?

You should see Word X, another "fine" application from Microsoft. It even crashes right at the start. Speaking of, what does the following error message mean: "cannot find shared library files. Please move Word (resp. Excel) to its original folder"? Whenever I start Word X, I receive that...

    Microsoft Word

It seems Word X will be able to read many file types from third-party applciations, such as WordPerfect and StarOffice. In "preferences" you can configure Word's way of handling f.e. WordPerfect 6.x files. However, in the test version only rtf, doc and html files can be opened. Does anyone know why?

    What Programs Would You Like?

I have always used WordPerfect on several platforms (DOS, Windows, Linux) and found WP much more reliable and powerful than its Redmont counterparts. I don't understand why Corel has dropped the Mac version. To see a carbonized version of WP 3.5 (or a new version!) would be a dream...

Lexmark drivers (Z33) for Mac OS X?

Thank you! This link seemed to be the perfect solution: smooth download (11,6 MB), decompression alright and the installation? Sucks! It didn't work out again! In the middle of the installation (shortly before opening the Print Center) the Lexmark driver repeatedly reported an "installation...

    FREE Lexmark Printers?

The Lexmark that I have got with my iMac works perfectly well with "Classic" (brilliant colors, acceptable speed and everything), but the OS X driver from lexmark.com sucks... I cannot even decompress it. But the file does not seem to be damaged or anything. Don't know what the problem is. Does...

Lexmark drivers (Z33) for Mac OS X?

I have tried downlading the MacOS X driver from the lexmark.com website. And it doen't work. After downloading cjmx33l1.hqx, I get the error message "The file does not seem to be compressed" and therefore Stuffit cannot open it. Does anyone have similar (or better) experiences)? Where can I get...

    Office 2001 for OS X

I am glad you are satisfied with your office applications! But the fact that you can hardly write the plural of "office suite for Mac OS X" clearly shows a problem, don't you think? Regardless of how good or bad Microsoft products are - the fact that you cannot choose anymore is definitely a...
