It is possible to make the windows of Cocoa apps transparent and I posted a link to an article about this that was on www.macosxhints.com. The Finder is a Carbon app though so it would take a bit more work to get transparent windows.

Option clicking in the scroll-bar reverses the option set in System Preferences. For example if you have it set to scroll by 1 page it will scroll to where you option-clicked.
