Mm, looks like it should work bob, i'll try to use it later. Sorry that i haven't been participating lately. I'm just so busy, i really wish i could spend more time on all of this. Furthermore i still have problems compiling any code. Even the example from the javatutorial. I keep getting...

    setting up ftp

The mode of course. If you set the directory (important not it's contents, cause the users need those) to restrict read or execute (don't remember which one i'll try it out later) access, the dir might not show up. Good idea. Completly forgot you can change the perm. on the dir as long as you...

    setting up ftp

As far as i know. NO Remember that usually those dirs aren't necesarry. Only if you want a 'secure' anonymous ftp. And the System dir etc. are OSX specific. No other UNIX needs those. You would really need to hack the ftpdeamon to hide this, and you can't do without them. No easy job. DJ

    The final menu bar solution!

To be really honest i hate all that stuff, but that's my opinion. About your Menu-idea. It wouldn't be in the new Spirit of the OS. You don't let apps share the same space (nor the same memory for that matter). That's what's always been possible in pre X and that's what made it so...

FTP -- not working -- Help

Can be lots of things. First you can not login to OSX as a root user. remember that. ftp-deamon can have been struck by that 0k bug-thing Your PATH is screwed and cannot find ftpd. But most likely i think something in your /etc/inetd.conf file went wrong because of the uniinstall The...

    UI inconsistency: Cocoa text handling

They will. They simply haven't had the time yet. Other strange things: No name editing in list mode of finder. Long names sometimes overlap other UI components (Try copying a file with a long name. It will override the progressbar) Updating of finder information is really lousy.

    Java won't run in IE

It simply does NOT work. Even though it says it might not work at some times if you enable it, it never does. Don't worry. I'm sure the Microsoft people will get it working in Final DJ

    Anything Java...

As IamBob mentioned. This is the place for all the people who would like to build Java/Cocoa applications(GUI's) over all those nice Command Line Utilities. You can find my project here: http://home.student.utwente.nl/d.hartman/watdoeik/gui.html It is an attempt to create a GUI for the...

    Anything Java...

Cool i'll check that one out too. I have also found this on Apple's http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Cocoa/Reference/ApplicationKit/Java/Classes/ The directory contains websites with information on all Cocoa-Java classes. Not really nice, but useable. It has info on the in's and...

does anyone know why qt for os x won't play mpg's?

They hadn't registered the technoligy with the MPEG group yet (Or something as stupid like that). And since that group is being a real pain in the ass lately, they haven't included it with OSX PB. Don't worry it will be there when final ships. DJ

I'm very interested in how you parsed the output of command to a list. And even more how you made it clickable. I want to do that to show files in my interface.

To create gnutar -czvf nameofpackage.tar.gz directory(you_want_to_compress) It is best to change the user of all the files to root and even the permissions to world. It will prevent any probs. to uncompress gnutar -xzvf fileyouwanttodecompress And maybe i'll take you up on that...
