    What is the best way to optimize for fast floating point operations?

    Uuh, just like you want to use FPU operations when the FPU isn't available? Until we use programmable processors you will always have to check the CPU's ISA. Note: AltiVec is useful for non-vector operations as well. It's very flexible. Making your vector code modular doesn't necessarily...

    "rm -P" on HFS+

    Not only will you fail to erase thumbnails, but also the resource fork, creation dates, file type/creators, comments, etc. A tool which approaches what you're looking for is Burn, but it hasn't been carbonized and is still written for 31 character filenames.

    "rm -P" on HFS+

    Furthermore you wouldn't be scrambling all the info. HFS+ supports more file attributes than 30yr old UNIX programs do.

    What is the best way to optimize for fast floating point operations?

    You can use the AltiVec C extensions |-) Optimization levels in gcc are a joke, gcc sucks. 3.1 is supposed to be better however, you can pull that from Apple's cvs. The improvement is supposed to be pretty good.

    The true benefits of a mac

    The benefit of a Mac is it allows you to get your work done in the least amount of time. Apple works on the most restrictive productivity bottleneck: the human<->computer one. PS: I will say that Mac OS is a bit harder to break than OS X in many ways. I can rename volumes, folders, and...

    What if Windows run on Mac natively?

    The problem with windows is it runs windows apps. A better idea would be to port key windows apps to OS X.

    using tar to Backup applications

    The fork isn't the only data tar fails to preserve. Creation date will also be lost as well as type/creator. Other things like icon position, Finder flags, etc. will also be lost. The problem with tar and UNIX filesystems is they lack a generalized file fork/attribute API and so it will...

    What is the most popular Hard Disk Name?

    By the way here's another reason UNIX sucks. We're used to changing our volume names willy nilly and having everything 'just work'. Well no more. If you change non-root volume names you end up breaking any reference to a file by path. For example symlinks or if you're running TextEdit which is...
