Steve Jobs calls Record Companies Greedy

0.79gbp comes out as about 1.40usd so it ain't that cheap here either!

Lower than expected iPod Nano sales

I bought a black 4gb nano - took 5 days (shipped from China) & included a custom engraving. Very cool it is too. Shame the "mug-me" earphones are still white though.

For those who want to keep PowerPC...

I reckon PPC will be supported in all versions of OSX. OS11(XI?) will be when they drop it.

    ya'll gotta relax

This is true. In the world of editing, which is extremely processor intensive, the G5 is not so fast as to stand out. If it really had that big a performance advantage, I wouldn't have so much trouble convincing colleagues to switch  I think from the Keynote speech it is obvious...

    ya'll gotta relax

As far as speed goes, I think that this may be why Apple is making the switch now. Granted the top end Pentium IV is not as fast as the PPC equivalent (though there's not much in it), but I'm guessing that Intel is ready to launch it's next generation processor - and IBM have no plans for a G5...

    ya'll gotta relax

I have a feeling that when people are sitting there with their new Dual 5GHz Multi-Core PowerMacs in a few years, they won't be pining for the old PPC macs anymore anyway...

    PowerPC is dead. PowerMacs? PowerBooks?

Similarly, what will the processor designation be? I'm guessing not G6. And what will transfer over to the new processor first? Logically I'd think it would be the Powerbook as people have been crying out for the upgrade, though we could see Powermac & Powerbook move over together.

    Keynote URL?

Mac OS X has been leading secret double life. Every Mac project build for Intel and PowerPC and Intel. Every release of Mac OS X has been built for both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. For the last 5 years. Mac OS X is cross-platform by design. Apple's demo is on an Intel-based system. Jobs shows...

Bullring Apple Store (Birmingham, UK) - Opens 29/4/05

I actually fired up Final Cut Pro on it, then started dragging windows everywhere to see how much I could fit in! One of the shop assistants came over and said if I came back later in the week he'd load up some footage on it so I could try rendering stuff & test the processing power (it was...

Bullring Apple Store (Birmingham, UK) - Opens 29/4/05

Oh-ah, where am ya? Hey, they've got the new Duel 2.7 PM's in, one set up with Duel 30" Cinema displays (niiiice!)

Bullring Apple Store (Birmingham, UK) - Opens 29/4/05

Didn't go to the opening but popped in today and was well impressed (when I actually got past the thronging crowd to look at stuff that is!)

Mac OS X 10.3.9 Update: Top or Flop?

Installed 10.3.9, everything works fine except that my iMac won't now shut down! Everything seems to turn off except the fan which, after a few seconds, decides to turn into a gale. Only option is to hold the power button down.

    New Final Cut Studio Announced

Now that G5 iMacs have been received...

I'm using Temparture Monitor too. It stays pretty much around what I've posted there (20" version). Suppose I could render some Final Cut stuff and see what happens to the CPU...

Funny, that's what BT said. Me poor Student, no can afford (especially as I just spent over 2k on a new Mac!)

Now that G5 iMacs have been received...

Well, I'm having problems with mine! It's suddenly given up on connecting to the internet, keeps giving me a 'No Carrier Signal' message. My G3 is having NO problems whatsoever, but I've tested my G5 thoroughly (including taking it round to my sister's & trying it there - it was fine) & it...

Now that G5 iMacs have been received...

My guess is it'll arrive Thursday. It's quite heavy, but you should probably get it home on the train (I think). Just don't plan on carrying anything else as well!

Now that G5 iMacs have been received...

It's fantastic. I've been playing with it all day, have loaded on the complete Production Suite & transferred everything from G3 iMac (which now looks a bit sad, sitting next to its grandchild) & it's been an absolute dream. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse work fine, extra memory installed OK. The...
