    Java 1.4.x - Desperate.

Bummer :( You'd think that porting the JVM from BSD/UNIX/Linux JVM to MACOSX would be easy seeing that they are apparantly closely related. sspooner: When you find out about the 1.4.X MACOSX JVM, please let me know. Thanks.

    Java 1.4.x - Desperate.

I don't get it. MacOSX is Unix-based, so couldn't you just install 1.4 at the command line? Or are you saying the 1.4 JVM hasn't been ported to Darwin yet?

    musings of a potential convert

I've been looking at the difference computers offered by APPLE. Coming from the PC world, it's hard for me to know the relative performance of each of these computers, or their comparison to their PC counterparts. I've looked at the benchmark data, and see that Macs outperform PC's that are...

    Test your real-world machine speed...

RAM affects the performance of a computer executing a given program. There is a term in computer architecture called spacial locality, which means if you have enough fast memory to hold all of the memory accesses that the CPU could ever make while executing a given program, then it will never...

    Truth about Apple performance (OS+hardware)

Although the iMac in the article above may have slightly worse CPU performance, the iMAC overall quality as a personal computer is much higher than the Gateway PC, IMHO.

    New TiBook???

Which for me, being in the market for a Ti Powerbook, begs this question: What happens to old Ti books? What happens to all that unsold inventory of obsolete Ti books? Where can I go to get them at reduced prices?

    The PC Strikes Back

What urks me is that in the new information, Intel just compares it's CPU performance with other Intel CPU's (except with the Itanium). It never compares to an Apple computer, whereas Apple benchmarks it's systems to PC's and other Macs.
