    unfamiliar with no fixed taskbar

All the options in the contextual (right-click) menus can be found in the menubar menus in any app that follows Apple's guidelines. I hardly ever use the right-click, even though I have a two-button mouse. Mostly just for the dock, and in iTunes.

The best one (IMO) is Quinn. Network play and other cool stuff is all there. Totally free too. http://www.stud.tu-ilmenau.de/~siha-in/quinn.html

    unfamiliar with no fixed taskbar

You'll have to learn about spring-loaded folders. When you're dragging something into folders, those folders are rarely more than two levels deeper than the default things in your sidebar (applications, home folder, documents folder etc.). So, when you want to drag something into a different...

    itune help or itune alternative?

That's exactly what the party shuffle option does!! You ctrl+click on any song and choose "Play next in Party Shuffle", and that will "queue-up" the song, ready to be played next. You can add to the bottom of the queue with the "Add to Party Shuffle". If you leave it to play through all the...

    Which ADSL Router?

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93333 Any router will do if you're willing to drop the firewall :P. But remember both (or all) parties will need to either have a no-firewall solution or be willing to 'mess about' with ports.

"Always on top" (inc. when Screen Saver is running)

Yes, but it won't start with DVD Player or VLC playing files. I wasn't sure if it was a consequence of those programs explicitly disabling the screensaver from starting, or if it was just a screensaver behaviour that came with video playback (or similar). Thanks for your help, again. As a...

The spelling of "Cocoa" in the explanation section of the Software Programming & Web Scripting forum is incorrect ("Coco").

"Always on top" (inc. when Screen Saver is running)

I've got a screensaver which does this already :). It's called "IconSticker" (it's on VT), and it displays the OmniWeb, Mail, and Proteus Dock icons on top of any screensaver of your choosing. The comments insinuate that it doesn't work on Panther (because it can't copy the install receipt...

"Always on top" (inc. when Screen Saver is running)

I don't yet know how feasible the idea is for someone like me who hasn't got the world's most fantastic working knowledge of Cocoa, but I've got a little app I'm dying to be made, and, since noone else has made it, I'm seeing what it would involve to take it upon myself. All I want the app...

    Converting

As much as I abhor the horrible Microsoft Word (and it's senseless formatting techniques), NeoOffice can hardly be called "Macified"; maybe OS 9-ified, but it doesn't look at all like any current good OS X app. If I was going to look at a free Cocoa word-processor for OS X, I'd look at AbiWord.

    appleseed.apple.com

If you, personally, type "appleseed.apple.com" in the location bar of Safari and press return, it's not possible that it's an IDN spoof (used by phishers). It's a real site run by the real Apple. However they don't want new participants at the moment (according to the site).

    New Newton? *yes please*

It's a little off-topic, but using the accelerometer in this way has already been done with the PowerBook's Sudden Motion Sensor: http://www.kernelthread.com/software/ams2hid/ams2hid.html http://www.kernelthread.com/software/ams/ams.html http://pallit.lhi.is/palli/dashlevel/

Any glitches w upgrade to Tiger?

Though you're right in that it would circumvent the license, the disc almost certainly WILL work in other machines (provided they have a DVD drive).

Let me be the first to say I don't think the logo change was warranted (from a designer's point of view). Though the new logo is aesthetically nice, it doesn't do anything but add the aspirational swooshes that are flooding the industry these past five years. I think the fact that the logo...
