Hub with Firewire 400 AND Firewire 800?

That would make sense, but 1394ta.org states something along the lines of "You can mix and match devices of different speeds on the same bus using "isochronous" data transmission.", while referencing three 1394 speeds, and two 1394b speeds. Nosh

Hub with Firewire 400 AND Firewire 800?

I've noticed quite a few six port Firewire 400 ports, and at least one three-port Firewire 800 port. I've also seen adapters to convert 800 to 400. But these are rather one-sided and expensive. What i'm looking for is something like a six port hub, connects to a Firewire 800 port, and has three...

What's the best bluetooth phone to use with my mac?

There are quite a few phones with GPS receivers built in, designed to alert a sufficiently equipped 911 call center to your exact location, should you be able to achieve a GPS satellite fix. These phones also give you the ability to turn on NMEA streaming data through the phones data port to a...

What's the best bluetooth phone to use with my mac?

The 6610 is already being advertised with T-Mobile plans, though it does not have Bluetooth. You'd want the 6650 for that. On a similar note, does anyone know of a cell phone that has bluetooth and GPS built in? I see many phones with either or neither, but not both. Nosh

Hard drive causes eMac display to shake under dock?

Or get a Western Digital 120GB 8MB Cache drive. I put that in my eMac before selling it, and there was no wobbly display problem at all, though spinning up, its a bit noisy. Nosh

    USB Earthmate GPS with TiPowerBook

You know, I went to the trouble of installing GPSDrive. 1.31 was the only version I could get installed, and it wouldnt download any maps from the servers. 1.33 and 2.01 refused to install. Nosh

    ADC woes...

I'm a little confused. I don't recall the CRT 17" having an ADC connector. The PDF Datasheet I found mentions a 15Pin VGA D-SUB connection. An ADC monitor takes its power from the PowerMac's ADC Video port, and a CRT needs considerably more power than an LCD. I dont think a Mac could power a CRT...

    USB Earthmate GPS with TiPowerBook

Nope, i'll pass. Besides, it's rather ugly :) I'll wait (probably forever) for someone to actually put out a mapping application for Mac. DeLorme used to. Route66 does for Europe. Nosh

    USB Earthmate GPS with TiPowerBook

If that is indeed the case, then I cannot give you an explanation as to why it does not work. But maybe you could help me out. Where is the Mac OS X verison of GPSDrive? I can only find distro packaged version and source on the homepage for GPS Drive, and i'm not stupid enough to pretend I know...

    USB Earthmate GPS with TiPowerBook

Curious. I had gathered that the Earthmate was not standard compliant. My father owns one with his laptop. It works fine with Street Atlas, but will not function with MS Streets and Trips, which accepts standard NMEA signal. Nosh

    USB Earthmate GPS with TiPowerBook

I do beleive it is because the DeLorme GPS products do NOT output NMEA signals, but instead use DeLorme's own propriatary communication method, hence why it only works with DeLorme's software or software designed to accept DeLorme GPS products. I recommend something like the GPS e Series from...

    256MB PC133 SODIMM from Powerbook 15" 1gHz

This memory (Samsung 256MB PC133 SODIMM) sells for $42 on Pricewatch.com. I'll give it up for that plus $3 shipping in the US. Nosh

    256MB PC133 SODIMM from Powerbook 15" 1gHz

I took this out of a Powerbook that I upgraded with two 512MB chips. Apple sells this same chip by itself for $100 on their own website, but no one's going to pay for that. Anyone know if Apple will buy back parts? Maybe at a premium? :) Nosh

    Booting from CD woes

On a Powerbook 17", I've been having problems booting from some CDs. The system restore/hardware test DVD that it came with boots just fine, but I can't get either of my Diskwarrior or TechTool Deluxe CDs to boot. I have not got any other bootable CDs, but I would like to run one of the...

When is a PowerBook Battery supposed to go into Hard Sleep?

Just as the topic says, I'm wondering at what battery percent level a 17" Powerbook should go into hard-sleep. Mine will go in at 7% left, and i'm curious is less than 7% not enough to keep the machine running, or could there be a problem with the battery? I used X-Charge during charging and...

    Adjusting a Powerbook LCD screen?

I have a new 17" Powerbook, but I've noticed that on the left extreme of the screen, a line of pixels seem to be missing. I know this because if I lower the resolution to a 4:3 aspect ratio, I see the border of a maximized window, but I cant see it at full 1440x900. Its only one pixel deep thats...
