samba: mounting my XP disc on my mac and visa versa

I just tried SMBBrowse 0.9.2, and it worked right away. The other version I tried just didn't work at all. Thanks for the tip!

    Disk copy is crap.

Well, I can see how that can be a nuisance. If you were to figure it all out using Terminal, would you ever have to redo it? I mean, couldn't you must make a note of what's what once and for all? Or do those designations change? (I'm revealing my ignorance here. . . :) )

samba: mounting my XP disc on my mac and visa versa

No, I haven't gotten into the instant messaging thing. But maybe if I'm ripping my hair out trying to configure Samba I'll have to see about using iChat. :)

Cool. I have a feeling it'll be a few months before I get around to really playing with it, but then I'll know who to ask for advice! :D

Why do these damn Dell PC's keep getting faster?!

That was a great post, RacerX! I have to agree with vanguard too. My 233 iMac just isn't cutting it anymore. I have to believe that once I get a PM this fall I'll be content for another four or five years. But in the meantime I have to gnash my teeth every time I hear how far behind Moto is...

    Disk copy is crap.

Man, do i disagree. Disk Copy RULES! Maybe there are other tools out there that do the same things, but I just love it that OS X has it built-in. As for the disk0/disk1 thing, without being in front of my Mac, I can't be sure, but doesn't it list the sizes? I've never had a problem...

samba: mounting my XP disc on my mac and visa versa

I've used X's built-in client, Sharity, and SMBBrowse. The one I've had best success with is the built-in client. Sharity was dog-slow and often hung, and smbbrowse I just couldn't get to work. I think I'm gonna wait for Jag-wire to do network browsing. . . . :) So you say the...

    Congrats to Nummi

I just read up on it a bit. Apparently (according to one source--if it's on the Internet, it must be true, right? :p--"if television said it, it must be true") having your system and applications in a partition located on the outer edge of the disc will improve access times, and thus speed it...

    Congrats to Nummi

I don't know, to be honest. All I know is, my iMac 233 is very very slow (but it's only got a 4 GB HDD)--so that doesn't provide any information. My PC, on the other hand, has a few hard drives, one of them being 40 GB. It seems pretty fast. Without really knowing anything about it, I can't...

    Did anyone notice?

Ah, but just think how great it loooks in IE 6 under Luna. ;)

    Mac OS X 10.1.5...

Wow, that's really a great ad for 10.1.5, huh? :p

    OmniWeb 4.1 beta 7 released

See this thread for a discussion (stemming from the use of Chimera for Apple's Xserve demonstration)--especially serpicolugnut's post. We can always hope . I think it would be great if Apple adopted Chimera.

    OmniWeb 4.1 beta 7 released

However, if Hyatt is being courted by Apple, then maybe development on Chimera will disappear into Apple, and you'll only be able to get the final release thread! ;) But if that is really the case, then we're in for a treat anyway.

    10.1 and Quicken 2002......

Nah, it was probably my fault. I'm probably not giving Quicken sufficient credit. I didn't figure out that it was some prior reconciliation attempts that were thwarting me at every turn. I was trying to start reconciling from a couple of months back, and Quicken just wouldn't understand that...

    Congrats to Nummi

Four partitions? Holy cats. What's all that used for? I grew quickly disillusioned with partitioning single drives when I was dual-booting Yellowdog Linux and OS 8.6 on my iMac. Something about YDL hosed my HFS+ partition. I had to zero my hard drive. Now that's an unpleasant...

    10.1 and Quicken 2002......

Well, it was a problem with my accounting practices, and with an unintuitive way of reconciling (IMHO). But I solved it, by golly. I didn't get an A in high school accounting for nothing. :p Honestly, I took five years of it pre-college (that's the South African education system...

    10.1 and Quicken 2002......

I've been using Quicken 2002 on 10.1 for a few months now, and have never had even one problem, including QIF imports. Now, balancing my account, that's been another problem. :)

Nah, I think what you want to do is something like this. My Windows computer name (configured in My Network Places, or whatever they're called it), is Frink. The name of my shared folder is PC. Therefore, from the Mac, I type Command-K, and enter this: smb://frink/pc That's it...
