    Changing a G4's powersupply?

I've replaced plenty of PC power supplies, but this is the first time I've had to do it to a G4. Do they need a special kind of PSU, or will any old ATX unit work? I'm looking to order the parts from Newegg, so I need to know if a non-Mac-specific PSU would work. m19

    Problems reading new DVD-RAM discs

Oi, nevermind. For some reason OSX wasn't opening the format dialog automatically. A quick trip into Disk Utility formatted the disc and got everything back on track. m19

    Problems reading new DVD-RAM discs

This problem occurs on three Macs, all running Panther: two are AGP graphics G4s and another is some type of G4 (not sure exactly which). Back when we were running 9.x, we could pop a DVD-RAM disc into the drive, format it, and start copying files over. But now that we're on OSX, we can only...

Icons dragged to Finder sidebar appear as default folders!

Disabling them didn't do anything. In fact, as I was researching the problem, I read several other threads that suggested the hacks were at fault but when disabled, the problem still persisted. It sounds like even people who don't use hacks get the default folder icons. And they're just...

Icons dragged to Finder sidebar appear as default folders!

Hmm... I noticed that on my Mac, the items I drag onto a Finder window's sidebar (on the left-hand side, where you can have shortcut icons/aliases) all default to the regular blue folder icon. I first noticed this because the Desktop icon on the Finder window's sidebar was a folder, whereas on...

Record a sound while playing it?

I tried one program... I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it didn't seem to pick up on the voice talking as being recordable. I'll try one of those other programs though, thanks. (EDIT-) Excellent! WireTap does exactly want I wanted to. Gratze. :) m19

Record a sound while playing it?

I'd like to turn the OSX voice (Fred) into sound files. On my PC I can open up a sound editor, hit record, and then record to file whatever's playing at the time, whether it's through a browser, another soundfile, etc. Is there any way to do that on a Mac? m19

FileMaker sometimes hangs at successful TCP/IP

Success! :D I trimmed down hardware extensions and reset FM preferences and it's been working great the past few days. Classic is still a little jerky, but at least I can get it working. Thanks again! m19

FileMaker sometimes hangs at successful TCP/IP

Ok I'll double-check hardware extensions and make sure I don't have anything on that shouldn't be. I haven't deleted the prefs file yet but I'll try that tomorrow as well. (I recall that working for a bad Photoshop install a while back.) Nope, haven't changed any network settings in OSX...

FileMaker sometimes hangs at successful TCP/IP

Heehe, I thought it was pretty obvious... I need to *not* have FileMaker freeze when I start it. :) Yes, yes, yes, yes, and no. The only hacks I have are Unsanity ones (FruitMenu, LabelsX, and WindowShade X) so I'll try disabling them. No, I have Extensions set to 9.2.2 Base. Unless...

FileMaker sometimes hangs at successful TCP/IP

Just like the title says, my FileMaker sometimes gets hung up at the "TCP/IP Successfully Initialized" bit of text on its splash screen. I'm running OS 10.3.5, Classic is 9.2.2, and FileMaker 5. What's strange about this is that sometimes FM'll startup and work fine, while the next it'll hang...

    Entourage's mail behavior vs. Outlook's

What? I'm not sure what these two mean. m19

    Entourage's mail behavior vs. Outlook's

So it sounds like you're saying the Send & Receive schedule is what's actually downloading (locally?) the messages? As a test, I tried turning off al schedules, sending a mail through a web-based email to the Exchange account, and it looks like it came through ok. After I got the email, it...

    Entourage's mail behavior vs. Outlook's

How do you figure? Going by their requirements and suggestions, I'm on 10.3.5 and an exchange server. Following their path, I can go: - Need to access Exchange server - Don't need more than email, scheduling, and calendar - That leads to Entourage 2004 You just sound bitter. :) In any...

    Entourage's mail behavior vs. Outlook's

That's the same way as what I did; they both go to Account Settings. And there's still no Options tab. ;) The ones that are there are: Account Settings | Mail | Directory | Advanced | Delegate | Security The Mail tab has a blurb about Downloading Mail: receive complete messages or...

    Entourage's mail behavior vs. Outlook's

There isn't an checkbox entitled that, as far I as I can tell. (This is Entourage 2004 if it makes a difference.) I went to Account Settings > me > Edit but there is no Options tab. Nothing else seems to relate to downloading complete message bodies. Poking around in Entourage some more, it...

    Entourage's mail behavior vs. Outlook's

I've set up Entourage but one thing is still bugging me. With my old Outlook on 9.x, it seemed to just "see" mail on our Exchange server; it didn't actually download them or anything. But I get the feeling that Entourage is downloading them locally... At least, every time I start it up I see in...

    Office 2004: Standard vs. Educational

I appreciate the warning, but I made sure to double-check that we would qualify as soon as it occured to me. Regardless, that still leaves my original question about getting one or three copies based on how many can run at once. :) Thanks, m19
