    java lockups

Have you checked the CodeGuide support forums? They have already addressed a number of 1.4 issues and have stated that there are many bugs (in the 1.4 preview) that they cannot work around. hth, bear

    Using bash over ssh

OK, I've long ago set things up so that I login to the bash shell when I launch a Terminal window. However, I'd like to also drop into bash when I ssh to the system. Currently, I enter: bash source .bash_profile after logging in through ssh, but I'd rather automate it. Any clues? thanks, bear

    Supporting Safari?

I'll also support it up to the point of standards. So far I've found some fairly serious problems -- to be expected for a beta product and all of which I have reported. bear

How many of you are using Safari?

I used Safari extensively all evening and I like it a lot. I never used tabs in the other browsers so I don't miss them -- though I'd be surprised if they didn't make it into the 1.0 release (or .1 at the latest). I've already found some CSS rendering and JavaScript bugs -- which I will be...

    Updates Live on MacWorld Keynote

I'm not disappointed at all. For how I use Macs, most of these announcements are very very good news! Your mileage may vary of course. bear

    Updates Live on MacWorld Keynote

Actually, if it's as fast as claimed, I think it's a very smart move. One of the biggest complaints I've heard from switchers or wanna-be-switchers is that the Mac browsers are so slow. A speedy browser should remove that objection once and for all. bear

Jaguar-burned CDs no longer readable on PCs

YES! 10.2.1 fixed the problem! Just watch out for files with the " (double-quote) character in their names (which happens, at least for me, often when iTunes rips file to mp3s). Since that's not a valid PC filename character, Windoze refuses to copy the files. bear

    10.2.1 update is out!!!!!

10.2.1 fixed the CD-R problem I reported in an earlier thread. Cool! (The problem was that CD-Rs I burnt under 10.2 were not PC-readable). bear

Jaguar-burned CDs no longer readable on PCs

I've searched through the other threads regarding CD burning problems, but didn't come across any that match the symptoms I'm experiencing. Since the Japuar upgrade, any data CDs I burn no longer seem to be readable on Windoze PCs (gotta use one at work -- sigh). I'm burning folders from...

Java reld : How to place Java Swing's menubar on the OS X main menu bar ?

I heard a rumor (so take it with a grain of salt) that this was not possible with JDK 1.3 but would be possible when 1.4 was ported to OS X. I'm hoping the rumor is correct. bear

You might also want to check the file ownership and permissions of the file to make sure you have access to it, and that it's executable. hth, bear

    IE 6 for Jaguar?

Yet another web developer here but I have a different point of view on the browser subject. Yes, most surfers out there are training their eyes on one of IE or Netscape. But one of the reasons for that is that the majority of web developers out there are still creating crappy web sites that...
