    Running webserver...

Apple watcher. You might want to take a look at a series of articles on the O'Reilly web site. They have a good series of articles on configuring the Apache server. This will at least clear up any confusion that you have over the none router aspects of the set up. Configuring Apache DC

    important iTunes install info

Am I the only one that has noticed that the sound check thing is useless? It would have been great to equalize the volume of my MP3s. What it seems to to is flatten the volume level within the track. Additionally, any track that resembles having a wide dynamic range gets distorted. ~30...

    Deleting Users

Just log in as an admin and go to the Terminal and type sudo -s <your_password> cd /Users rm -rf Test logout To explain... sudo -s creates a root shell that gives you root priviliges, it uses your admin password rather than the root password. cd /Users changes to the directory...

Copying files from OS X to Windows

There should be no need to use ftp, or Dave. I do this every day using the built in samba. There are several threads that tell you everything you need to know. It should work just as well whether you are networking through a router (as I am) or directly connecting the ethernet ports (straight...

Copying files from OS X to Windows

You get this problem if OSX is actually using any of the files. Should work fine if not though.

    X Files!!!!

You'll also notice that if you do any image manipulation using the built in tools the file size drops dramatically. I have a number a 1+ meg images. If I rotate them they drop to a couple of hundred k. I've never bothered to check whether this is real or not.

Moved Applications and lost services function how do I fix?

Not sure I agree with Ed here. It's not about making it work like another OS. It is making it work for you. I have totally abopted the task based metaphor that OSX introduces. I no longer use the desktop. 'Go Applications', 'Go Home' etc are very efficient. Applications I use every day are...

    AIM and 10.1.5 dont mix

I had similar problems with AIM. Every time you tried to do anything useful it crashed. On a different note I find the Yahoo! message stream flakey too. Can't seem to stay connected.

Can't Empty Windows Files from Trash

Every time I network to my Windoze laptop from my iMac I run into an annoying problem. If I delete files from the Windoze machine I can't empty my trash because of permissions. I tracked the offending trash folder to the .Trash file in the root shared directory in the PC. I figured that I...

    Network update in software update

Could be coincedental, but since the network update OSX won't release its DHCP address. Every now and then I lose my P address. When I log into the router it stil shows the IP address as taken. The only way I can free up this IP address, and get the Mac to pick up a new one is to power cycle...

    Mozilla 1.0 released

My two penneth worth... I totally agree with Ed on one thing; speed is not the thing that matters most. I would put functionality first. Does the browser do what you want / need it to do? My principles tell me that I don't want to use M$. Unfortunately my needs dictate otherwise. If want...

Unable to unmount disks (but they are listed in /Volumes)

I'm hoping that someone will still take a look at this thread, as I've had exactly the same problem. It started when I was using iTools through the terminal. I can't eject from the finder (iDisk is in use - er, not it's not). I tried unmount from the terminal. Still no go (although I'm not...

    Herve's Bar & Grill

Ah that's better. Amazing how a beer can cause all that work stress to just melt away. Seen as how I'm new round here, I guess it's my round. Who's in? I recommend the Hobgoblin. I'm impressed that you can get it here. Guess I'll be calling in to this watering hole more often. DC

    Right-Click and Scroll

How about making more use of the 'click-and-hold' function. The dock works well with this. Click-and-hold and it's the same as control-click. Yes it's slower than a right click, but most power users avoid the mouse, and use the keyboard as much as possible. What really sucks is the lack of...

    Herve's Bar & Grill

Any chance I can get a beer here? If I don't get a drink soon I'm going to bludgeon someone to death before walking out of this stinkin' job. A pint of Hobgoblin and a whisky chaser would go down well. DC
