I recently installed Leopard and I'm now backing up and cleaning my Mac before starting time machine. My 'Previous Systems' folder says it contains 12.9gb, but within it is one folder, '2008-02-15_0307', which contains 1.3gb. In turn this contains 'Private' at 277mb and 'Users' at 8k. Where is...

One of my sons has asked me to go with him tomorrow night to look at a G5 iMac advertised in the local paper. We both know a fair bit about Macs but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to look for in a second hand Mac, any way of spotting problems, etc.

Thanks both. He's since found out from a friend with the same model that it's USB2. The first thing I looked at was System Profiler but I still can't figure it out. I can't see any reference to 'highspeed interface'. I've attached a pic of the USB info, what should I be looking for here, please?

My son wants to buy a new DVD recorder and the one he wants is for USB 2. How does he find out if his iMac is USB 1 or 2?

There is also a built in FTP in OS X. Go to the finder and go to Go at the top and then Connect to server, then put in ftp://(YOURFTP).com. Then it will prompt you for authentication.

What are you using to burn your CDs? For instance if you're using Toast you can chose which recorder to use by going to Recorder/Recorder Info, and the same with iTunes, go to Preferences/Advanced/Burning.

I don't know how or why but it's all back to normal now. At least it's made me get round to backing up a load of recent work and photos of my grandson, just in case.
