I occasionally bomb on start up with the error message: system error occurred apple cd/dvd driver illegal instruction. I never had this happen before. reasons why? how to fix?

can you rename the folder itself on the desktop or hd first (just call it anything) and then try the above remedy?

Try putting it back on your desktop or hd from the trash if it's there and then create a new folder with the same name. you will be asked if you want to replace the old one, click yes. now drag the new folder to the trash and delete it. voila! let us know if it worked. P.S. I learned this a few...

Cool idea that's what I'll do. The files in that folder are all already installed automatically from Software Update, right? The Utilities creation dates didn't all match the ones I already have, so maybe those are items you can selectively/manually update? There are fewer items in the Update's...

I just used Software Update to update my 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 and there is now a folder on my desktop labeled "Mac OS 9.2.2 Update". I had already done the restart which I think installed everything and the About This Computer now says OS 9.2.2 --so can I trash it? The contents seem to match the same...

I want to run Speed Disk but the Norton CD will not boot my G4 with 9.2. I tried changing Start Up disk in Control Panel as well as holding down C key at restart--neither way worked, always boots from Mac HD. I'd heard about this bug, how do I get around it/start from another source? Do I copy...

Is this in the right area to post this? Anyway, my new 733 G4 only connects at 31,200 max. My PC with a USR modem constantly gets 44,000 on the same dial up. Why? Is there anything I should check in settings somewhere on the G4? Anything I can do to improve connection speed? Thanks.
