    burning Windows compatible bootable CD's

ropers: All I did was go into Disk Copy, goto File | New | Image from Device and then selected the drive and off it went. To burn it I went back into Disk Copy, and went to File | Burn Image. All my System Preferences are out-of-the-box. Hope this helps some.

OS X printing through Win 2k server

While I've printed from Windows-to-Mac, I've not tried Mac-to-Windows. The first thing you should really do is uninstall AppleTalk on your Win2k box. This is probably Microsoft's implementation of AppleTalk for Windows so you know it's not going to work right. You'll also notice, AppleTalk...

W2K share doesn't show new files

This must be limited to OS X's SMB-mounting abilities, because if you go into the Terminal, and mount an SMB share from there, every single time you do an 'ls' it'll give you a true listing of everything there.

    burning Windows compatible bootable CD's

That's interesting. I use Disk Copy all the time (nevermind why ;) ) and it never burns anything as Mac OS Extended. It ALWAYS burns as an ISO9660 with Joliet extensions. Hmm...

    Wireless net sharing

I know that Jaguar has an option to enable sharing of an internet connection on one interface and out another. I've tried enabling this but to no avail. Here's the situation: we've got a G4 on the LAN that has access to the internet through a proxy server. We've got 6 iBooks with AirPort...

windows network + wireless router = unable to browse school network?

Make sure that your router has NAT enabled and that it's getting a valid IP from the school's DHCP. Also make sure that the router is assigning IPs via DHCP to it's wireless clients. DHCP isn't mandatory, but I'd use it for simplicity until all the bugs are worked out.

    Login to a win2k Domain

Hmm...interesting. This warrants research! ;) I've got a WinNT domain at school, and a Win2k domain at home. I've been wondering about that as well. I'll see what needs to be done.

Porting Aqua and Quartz to x86

I know there's a group out there who's dedicated to porting Aqua and Quartz to x86. Does anyone know if this group has a site or anything? Is anyone here trying to accomplish the same feat? Or perhaps making an Aqua-like environment for Darwin/x86?

    C or C++

C++ seems to be the "standard" nowadays. Almost everything I've seen has been in C++.

    HELP! I get a "sh-2.05" when booting!

Why did you have to install Samba? It's a base package on OS X. If you were updating to a recent version, that's understandable, but you shouldn't've had to.

    windows games, linux, emulation

I've been working on porting WINE to OS X/Darwin. You would, like our friend said, have to implement x86 emulation, which isn't hard since Bochs was ported to OS X.

Airport: stability vs. security - help please

Not just ANYONE can connect to the ABS for access. You CAN set the ABS to ask for a user and password before it finalizes its connection. Plus you can further restrict access by utilizing the networking tools you've got. Make sure the ABS is set to grab an IP from the DSL router using DHCP...

    Problems with Samba

1.) Make sure Windows File Sharing is turned on in System Preferences > File Sharing. 2.) Make sure that the Samba daemon and NetBIOS daemon are both running. To do this, open up a terminal window and type 'ps -aux'. Look for /usr/sbin/smbd and /usr/sbin/nmbd. You might not see nmbd. If...

The startup sound you're referring to is actually integrated into the boot ROM and is not upgradable via flash or any other means.
