    2 boot drives

I have recently used CCC to set up 10.2.8 on my new external FireWire drive. I have successfully booted from this drive (to OS X and to OS 9), however, it does not always boot from this drive even though it is selected to in my start disk up preferences. Sometimes it boots from my internal drive...

    my backup strategy

professor, thanks for responding. I will try XBench as that tool may come in handy. However, I can percieve the difference in the speed of the HDs, simply by browsing folders in the finder. Also i have noticed that adobe acrobat loads MUCH faster. I should also tell you that I am running on...

    Need advise setting up partition

Thanks for the info. I noticed that I am able to create one partition. Is this the same as no partition? I moved everything over to the FW drive using CCC and booted up successfully from that drive. The system does seem to move faster. (I can't wait for my RAM to get here) I have been...

    my backup strategy

Need some advice about possible backup solutions. (see my tech specs in the profile) since my extrenal drive is so much faster than my internal, I've decided to move everthing over to the FW drive. I used CCC to transfer everything and have booted up successfully from the FW drive to OSX and...

    power off peripherals?

I contacted LaCie about this. This is what they told me: "Our d2 drives will power themselves on and off with the computer. Turning the power off on a CD burner is not so important. They just idle and do nothing. However, the Design by FA Porsche-cased hard drives will not spin down and...

    Need advise setting up partition

to those who suggested I don't partition: thanks for responding. I must admit however, that I'm surprised by your answers; after all the threads I read on partitions, it seemed like a good idea. for example: I thought could I improve the speed of OS X if I put it on the faster drive in a 7-9 GB...

    DIMM slots and ram upgrades

yes. all the ram sellers say I can max it at 1GB. someone on another forum said the apple docs are wrong. notice how it says max ram is 512K and then further down it says it will take 512MB cards, but it would only be able to accept a 512MB card if it has a max capacity of 1GB...

    DIMM slots and ram upgrades

I am having trouble confirming the max ram capacity. here's another source that says 512MB http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/dvse.shtml and of course, the store that I am going to buy from said my max is 1GB. If the max is 512MB, and I install a 512MB board, I think I will only get 256MB out...

    power off peripherals?

I have the LaCie firewire (porsche) hard drive and a LaCie firewire CD/r drive. I was wondering... when I shut down my computer, do I need to power off these peripherals? Is there an advantage/disadvantage to doing this? I ask because the cd drive does not have an "off" button and the on/off...

    DIMM slots and ram upgrades

according the apple history link you provided: RAM Type: PC100 Minimum RAM Speed: 100 MHz Onboard RAM: 0 MB RAM Slots: 2 Maximum RAM: 1 GB I'm assuming that Onboard ram = 0MB, means that the 128 MB it shipped with is taking up one of my DIMM slots. (that would stink) can anyone...

    DIMM slots and ram upgrades

I know that I have two DIMM slots in my G3 400mhz. The machine shipped with 128MB of ram. and I'm eager to improve my OS X functioning with some memory upgrades. I want to max it out at 512MB. here's the question. Is this 128MB part of the machine or does this take up a DIMM slot? In other...
