Don't use Norton Utilities on OS X. If disk utility will not repair the drive then it sounds to me like you might need a new one.

I don't see any advantages to downloading the updates from the apple site unless you were going to use them on other machines. Why would this be a 'rule'? Surely it's personal preference and software update is accurate and very easy to use. I would ignore this comment if I were you.

I work for a big publishing company and all the machines have their specific image installed. I deleted the finder preferences already. I'm probably going to upgrade to 10.4.7 this afternoon.

One of my users has an ongoing problem. He's copying and renaming files in finder and the keyboard stops working. If he clicks on another application the keyboard works fine. The only way he can rectify it is to relaunch finder which is a pain. I've repaired disk permissions and it worked ok...

My friend has the same generation iPod for PC and it does not charge when connected to PC. In fact it drains the power. She has to charge it using a dock and plugging it in to a mains supply.

Is it a PC or Mac iPod? The older ones were made for one platform or the other not both.

Is your daughter using iChat on a mac or other software? Have you checked your iChat preferences that it is recognising audio and visual?
