Added RAM to 12" PowerBook - Now It Won't Boot Up

I just added 256 RAM to my PowerBook and now it won't start up (a gray screen just comes up and asks me to either shut-down or start-up). I took out the RAM and the PowerBook started up and worked normally. I'm pretty damn sure I got the right type of RAM for my PowerBook. Anybody know whats wrong?

Not all memory is the same. The cheaper, generic stuff may have defects that OS X detects and doesn't like. What kind of memory did you get? It may be substandard.

For now, simply remove it and look for a name brand, like Kingston.

Could be a bad ram module. If you bought it locally (to you) take it back and exchange it for a different one, or if you bought it via the 'net then see what the return policy is for the place you bought it from.

What do you guys think about Crucial memory (www.crucial.com) for my iBook G4? Ive always been very happy with their memory for my PCs in the past and it costs half as much as the stuff they have on apple.com
