I can't find anything quite like this in the various threads. It's not of vital importance, but I'd like a way to solve it (Question is at end of thread).
CPU: G4 tower, 400, 512, 10.3.7, Classic, 9.2.2
Two hard drives in bottom bay: original 10Gig (HD-A), added 80Gig (HD-B).
Another new 80Gig drive (HD-C) in upper Zip bay (underneath CD)
All three drives mount properly and all files are accessible at all times.
Operating in essentially two ways:
1) HD-A: 10.3.7 + Classic (normal operation)
2) HD-B: 9.2.2 only (normal operation)
Restarts to switch OS in drives HD-A & HD-B work properly.
3) HD-C: 10.3.7 (no startup)
Question: HD-C mounts normally and interacts perfectly with files, but it refuses to be a startup drive. Mac searches (? Mac), then selects one of the other drives (HD-A, HD-B) for startup.
I would like to make this second 80Gig drive a startup drive and discontinue using HD-A (it's old and small).
If it is the Zip bay that is at fault, the only solution I can think of is physically swapping the two drives--placing HD-C in a bottom slot, and moving HD-A to the Zip bay.
But if it's the drive, then I may need to move everything off and reformat?
What are your thoughts? All will be appreciated.
(NOTE: You wonder why I keep one drive purely 9.2.2? Because I'm still a creature of habit and am so used to that OS I don't want the Classic effect, which denies a couple of my old writing tool apps anyway. This may change in time, but not yet.)
Thanks,
hajimebill
