I am having trouble with apple mail, on a co-workers machine
Mail freezes on startup, everything else runs ok, but mail fails to startup.
I have tried throwing away the preferences file and starting, but it still freezes.
Ok I tried that and still the same result, the open application arrow on the dock is there (little black arrow next to mail icon) but the application doesnt open, with no Mail menus accross the top visible.

It could be a bad file in Home>Library>Mail.
Tray trashing MessageSorting.plist and the backup file listed right below it.
With the arrow in the dock showing it is running, click once on the Mail icon in the dock. Does the menu come up now?
Try this:
hit option + command(apple) + esc buttons. You should get the force quit window. Select Mail and click on force quit. You will get a 'Are you sure' window. click on Force quit. Now launch it. If you still do not have a viewer window, go to the File menu (with Mail showing at the left) and select New Viewer Window.
