Apple Mail Problem

Hi,
I have a problem with Apple mail 1.3.8 and I hoping someone can give me some input. I am using IMAP to connect to my mail server (unix based) and when I check mail it will report that there are no new messages. After closing Mail and reopening, new mail messages come in, as well as ones I had already deleted and expunged.

Some details....
I am not using SSL, authentication mode is "password"
The "Trash" settings are as follows, "Move deleted messages to the trash mailbox" is checked and "store deleted messages on server" is checked.

Please let me know if there is any additional info I can provide regarding this issue.

Its driving me nuts!

Thanks for any help anybody can provide.

First, you are keeping your emails on the mail server. That is why you get those emails that you already read. Uncheck Store messages on server.

In Mail preferences under Accounts> Advanced Check the Remove copy from server after retrieving messages.

Cheryl: it's an IMAP server. All the messages are supposed to be on the server. You're probably thinking of a POP server.

Somewhere I read about some IMAP problems with certain servers where Apple's Mail.app doesn't send the delete commands at the correct times, causing some "strict" servers to not get the delete command.

I'll dig around and see if I can find some info on it.

Also, what is your "Permanently erase deleted messages when:" set to under the Trash preferences? Try setting it to "Quitting Mail" and see what happens. I believe that "bug" I mentioned occurs when you quit mail and messages are marked for deletion, so it may not help.

Thanks ElDiablo... sorry for the delayed response.

The "permanently erase deleted messages when" dialog is set to "one week old"

If this helps, here are some specs on the mail server we're using. It's a Debain linux box running kernel 2.4.26. I beleive the mail daemon is Zmailer.

Thanks again,
