applescript won't record in 10.1

i can't record in the apple script editor in 10.1. Anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? Thanks.
 
I've the same problem. Click record, the red light comes on. Go off and perform the action to be recorded and nothing appears in the script window. Click to stop recording and I get the old-school black and white beach ball spinning eternally until I force quit Script Editor.
