Are you able to run Classic 9?

Apple would have mentioned it if a G5 weren't able to run Classic software in Mac OS X.

The PowerPC 970 (G5) has no problems running 'older' 32bit PowerPC code, hence 10.2.7 with only some optimisation for the new processor (64bit optimisations).

However: Your question should go to the hardware forum, not the Panther forum. Moving it.

I have many reasons to boot into OS 9 instead of using Classic, but those are specific to my situation for the most part. Panther will support Classic just fine, and it's got improved Classic Launcher features (like a Dock icon that fills up as Classic loads).

yeah, same here. Like...running Quake 3 or Descent 3 in Classic is damn slow, and the sound is all messed up on my iBook 800.

The main reason for me, as I have stated numerous times before, is that I have a hole in my Classic environment that makes it unusable. However, booting into 9 makes programs run much faster than in X or in Classic mode, and most of my stuff is for Classic anyway.
